About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I’m Mark Mahoney, a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) based in Bromley, offering face-to-face counselling for individuals seeking to address a range of emotional and mental health challenges.

I provide a confidential, compassionate, and supportive space where you can explore issues such as anger, anxiety, and low confidence, which often interfere with personal happiness and well-being. My work is client-centred, drawing on evidence-based approaches to meet the unique needs of each individual.

My Approach to Therapy

My approach is integrative and flexible, adapting to meet your unique needs. I draw on person-centered techniques and incorporate cognitive-behavioral elements where helpful, creating a balanced framework for self-exploration and change. Therapy is a collaborative journey, and I place a strong emphasis on creating an environment of trust and respect. Working together, we’ll set achievable goals that allow you to track your progress and feel empowered in your personal growth.

Whether you’re dealing with anger that feels difficult to control, anxiety that disrupts your daily life, or confidence issues that hold you back, I’m here to help. Seeking support is a significant step, and I’m committed to helping you find clarity, resilience, and direction. If you’d like to arrange an initial consultation or learn more, please feel free to get in touch.

Practice description

Understanding and Managing Anger

Anger can be a complex and sometimes misunderstood emotion. While anger is a natural response to certain situations, it can become destructive if not managed effectively, potentially straining relationships or impacting physical and mental health. In our sessions, we’ll work together to understand the triggers and underlying factors contributing to your anger, developing strategies to express and manage these feelings constructively. By addressing these areas, you can gain greater control over your reactions and reduce the stress and frustration that may arise from frequent anger.

Addressing Anxiety and Stress

Anxiety is one of the most common issues people face today, manifesting in various ways, from persistent worry and social discomfort to panic and physical symptoms. Left unaddressed, anxiety can affect every area of life, leading to avoidance, isolation, and sometimes depression. I aim to provide a safe space for you to explore the causes and patterns of your anxiety. Together, we will identify the specific thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors that feed your anxiety, and work on practical tools for managing it, including mindfulness techniques, breathing exercises, and cognitive restructuring. My goal is to help you regain a sense of calm and confidence, allowing you to engage fully in your daily life.

Building Self-Esteem and Confidence

Low confidence and self-esteem often stem from critical inner voices or past experiences that can leave you feeling “not good enough.” In our work together, we’ll explore the root causes of your low self-esteem, helping you to recognize and challenge self-limiting beliefs and behaviors. Through this exploration, I’ll support you in cultivating a more positive self-view and building confidence in your abilities, decisions, and relationships. With time, you’ll gain tools to reinforce this new sense of self-worth, empowering you to pursue a more fulfilling, self-assured life.
