Availability
Please feel free to let me know whether you would like to like to meet via zoom online/arrange a telephone call or a walk and talk session (all of which are £55)
Alternatively, we could use a room at The Practice Clinic in Thame (which is usually on a Monday or Friday morning). The fee for this will be £73, due to the cost of booking the room; administration/advertising etc.
If you are a student, I understand that finances can be an issue and can potentially offer a concessionary reduced fee if we are meeting via zoom/telephone (please feel free to mention this to me).
The first session can feel overwhelming as you may not be sure what to expect. However, it takes courage to arrange a first appointment and clients often say that this is the 'hardest part' - beginning therapy.
There is no right/wrong as to how a therapy session ought to be, nor is there any pressure to book further sessions.
I am offering therapeutic support to you, whereby we will work together at your own pace and if you choose to, we can then arrange dates/times which suit both of us.
Sessions can be arranged weekly/fortnightly - depending on your preference. There is never a requirement to pay for multiple sessions up front, payment is kindly required in advance of the session which follows the current one. Pencilling dates in our diaries ensure that we are able to arrange to meet on a regular basis at a time which suits you.
At the moment - I have no personal holidays planned and have some availability, so please feel free to reach out to me.
About me and my therapy practice
Hi, my name is Louise and I work in private practice in Thame. I provide Counselling/Psychotherapy and use CBT skills. Thank you for taking the time to look at my profile because I recognise that the idea of counselling could be 'new' to you and feel quite overwhelming in itself.
We all have struggles in life, some big, some small, but it is often how we manage to cope with them that makes a difference to how we feel. It could be that your troubles are going around and around in your head and lead you to feel anxious; stuck or even lost.
What do you do with them if you feel isolated or don't want to be seen 'as a burden' or that you are 'always complaining'?Worries and thoughts may impact how you feel physically (i.e. with headaches/stomach pains) as well as psychologically, which is where counselling can help.
How can counselling make a difference you?
Counselling can give you the time to explore your own thought process at your own pace, without the need to 'watch what you say' or feel worried about what you say, through fear of judgment from others. Counselling can be an outlet for you to gain clarity and enable you to move forward so that you don't feel stuck; isolated or overwhelmed. With courage from the insight gained - you may find a different way to respond to the situation, which may be a more helpful way of managing/coping with perceived difficulties.
What are therapy sessions like?
I compassionately offer you support and encourage you to share whatever you would like to bring to the session. Sessions allow a sense of freedom in that they are not a 'tick box' exercise led by me, you have the choice to explore what you want to - this is time for you!
Additional CPD courses undertaken:Advanced CBT Diploma; Anxiety and Aggression Management Practitioner Diploma; Grief and Bereavement Counselling Diploma; Couples and Family Therapy Diploma; Dealing with Depression Diploma; Eating Disorder Awareness Diploma; PND; Telephone and online Counselling.
Practice description
How do I work?
I work as an Integrative Counsellor/Psychotherapist which means that I utilise different creative techniques when working alongside you depending on what you bring to the session.
For many clients, feeling heard and listened to is really important as this encourages exploration of thoughts and feelings. I can provide you with compassion and understanding in a safe, confidential space.
We can explore your family of origin along with any early memories and dreams (if you would like to) - as this often provides insight into yourself and how you view the world. Interpretations are often formed from a young age and this is a time where our sense of belonging and significance is formed. Understanding ourselves better and identifying behaviour patterns can be insightful and useful...as this provides the opportunity to change (if we are feeling 'stuck' or unsure how to move forward).
Why do I adopt a holistic approach?
I recognise that we are all unique individuals and therefore, following a 'tick box' approach is not effective. We all have different interpretations and experiences and the mind and body are closely connected, whereby one influences the other.
I feel I can recognise this due to working in the NHS and also attaining a Psychology Degree, as both our physical and psychological health contribute to our well-being.
What issues do I work with?
I am able to explore a range of issues/difficulties, including anxiety; stress; self esteem; depression/low mood (this is by no means an exhaustive list).
I feel that my Midwifery and Health Visiting roles are particularly advantageous when working with clients who are trying to conceive; have had difficult pregnancies or experienced birth trauma.
I also have understanding and awareness that the perinatal period may not be how you expected it to be and this can lead to 'baby blues' or postnatal depression. Having a baby is life-changing and can feel overwhelming; isolating and exhausting.
My first session
Our first session together is an opportunity to find out what has brought you to counselling and how we can work together to overcome your perceived difficulties.
It may be that a 'one off' session is all that you would like, or it may be that a number of sessions are agreed between us and then we review how you are experiencing therapy and how you would like to progress.
There is no right/wrong way to have counselling, it is about what works best for you as an individual.
If you would like to have an initial telephone call or a brief zoom meeting that can be arranged.
This is free of charge whereby I can answer any questions you may have about how I work.
Alternatively, you are welcome to book a full 50 minute session, which can be a ‘one off’ (no obligation to continue) or we can book a number of appointments in advance at a time which works for us both.
The time agreed for the next session is reserved in my diary for 48 hours, although only following receipt of the fee via BACS, will your appointment be guaranteed. A zoom link will then be sent through to you.
If payment has not been kindly received 24 hours before the session, I will assume that the appointment is not going ahead and therefore will offer this time to any other interested client.
Alternatively, we can meet for a face to face appointment at The Practice Clinic in Thame (usually on a Monday or Friday).
What I can help with
Abuse, Anger management, Anxiety, Bereavement, Cancer, Child related issues, Chronic fatigue syndrome / ME, Depression, Disability, Eating disorders, Health related issues, Identity issues, Infertility, Loss, Menopause, Mood disorder, Obsessions, OCD, Post-traumatic stress, Pregnancy related issues, Redundancy, Relationships, Self esteem, Self-harm, Sex-related issues, Sexual identity, Sexuality, Spirituality, Stress, Trauma, Women's issues, Work related issues

I also have understanding and awareness that the perinatal period may not be how you expected it to be and this can lead to 'baby blues' or postnatal depression. Having a baby is life changing and can feel overwhelming; isolating and exhausting.

I am able to explore a range of issues/difficulties, including anxiety; stress; low self esteem; depression/low mood (this is by no means an exhaustive list).
Having a baby is life changing and can feel overwhelming; isolating and exhausting.
