About me and my therapy practice

Hello and welcome! I'm Stephen Rose, a Clinical Psychotherapist and Clinical Supervisor. If you're seeking a compassionate and effective approach to improving your mental health, you've come to the right place. My practice is grounded in evidence-based therapies like Person-Centered Counselling, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS). What does this mean for you? It means you'll receive personalized care tailored to your unique needs and life experiences.

I have a vast array of experience working with addiction, relationship problems, anxiety, LGBTQ+ issues and more; however, I specialise in trauma and sleep-related issues, two areas that often intertwine and these issues form the basis of my doctoral thesis. By addressing these core issues, we can unlock your potential for profound healing and growth. Rest assured, I adhere to the highest ethical standards as a registered member of both the British Psychological Society (BPS) and the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

In our sessions, you can expect a blend of structured assessments and open conversations. This balanced approach allows me to understand you holistically and to develop a treatment plan that's both scientifically sound and personally resonant. My experience across diverse settings, from NHS practices to specialized organisations, equips me to offer you a broad range of proven strategies for mental health improvement.

In a nutshell, my approach is all about combining clinical expertise with compassionate care. I aim to create a safe space where you can explore your thoughts, confront challenges, and embark on a transformative journey towards better mental health.

I look forward to the possibility of working together!

My first session

"Welcome to the first step of your therapeutic journey. I understand that beginning therapy can be a significant decision, and I aim to make your first session as informative and comfortable as possible. To facilitate this, I offer the initial session at a 50% discounted rate. Additionally, our first meeting will be allocated 90 minutes, rather than the standard hour, to ensure we have ample time to address all your questions and to explore if our working relationship feels right for you.

Upon your arrival, you'll find a supportive and empathic environment where you can begin to explore your issues openly. We'll start with a brief clinical assessment to gain an initial understanding of your needs and concerns. This assessment is crucial for tailoring subsequent sessions to your specific requirements.

Next, we'll establish a therapeutic contract. This important document outlines all issues regarding confidentiality, ensuring that the space remains a secure and private setting for your self-exploration and healing.

Towards the end of our first session, we'll begin to formulate a plan. This collaborative process will outline how we intend to work together to address and resolve the issues you bring to therapy. The plan will serve as a roadmap for our therapeutic journey, providing structure while allowing flexibility for unexpected insights and challenges.

In summary, the first session is designed to set the foundation for a successful therapeutic relationship. About me and my therapy practice

My approach to clinical supervision is characterised by a commitment to fostering growth and reflection. With a foundation rooted in the cyclical model advocated by Page and Wosket. I hold two masters degrees alongside a PGCert, I am currently reaching the conclusion of my Doctoral Thesis.

Tailored Guidance: I recognise that every therapist brings a distinct set of skills, experiences and challenges to the supervisory relationship. Whether you are a seasoned practitioner seeking to refine your expertise or a novice therapist, I provide a supportive and personalised space for your development.

Inclusive and Affirming: My commitment to inclusivity and diversity is unwavering. I bring a culturally sensitive and LGBTQ+ affirmative perspective to the supervisory process. This ensures that all supervisees feel valued and understood.

Evidence-Based Practice: In an ever-evolving field, staying abreast of the latest research and therapeutic modalities is paramount. My academic pursuits directly inform my supervisory approach. Thus equipping you with the knowledge and skills needed to provide effective and contemporary therapy.

Reflective Practice: Central to my supervision is the concept of reflective practice. Together, we engage in a thoughtful and introspective exploration of clinical work. This involves examining case material, therapeutic dynamics and addressing challenges that may arise.

Supportive Collaboration: I view our supervisory relationship as a collaborative partnership. You can expect a safe and non-judgmental space where you can openly discuss your triumphs and challenges.

Trauma-Informed Perspective: Given my central focus on trauma, I incorporate a trauma-informed lens into our discussions. This perspective allows us to explore the impact of trauma on both clients and therapists.

In conclusion, If you are seeking a supervisor who values excellence, diversity, and ongoing development, I am here to guide you on your professional journey.
