About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I'm Ellen and I offer online counselling to anyone in, or usually based in, the UK.
I have a special interest in helping people with low self-esteem to be seen, heard and validated and I enjoy making counselling and psychology relatable, using my keen interest in pop culture.
I have previously helped clients navigate and grow from a number of challenges including grief, bereavement, low self esteem, life transitions, gender transition, existential crises, mid life crises, end of life crises and loneliness, body dysmorphia, gender dysphoria, neurodivergence, school disengagement, self-harm, suicidal ideation, parental relationships, anxiety and depression. I am open to working with all challenges, mental health issues and put building a relationship with you at the heart of the work.
Practice description
I offer online sessions for adults and young people (aged 16-17).
I work with the past, present and future and am keen to learn about your experiences and what shapes you. You will be met with sincerity, compassion, curiousity and, occasionally, kind humour.
Sessions are led by you. Whatever it is you want to bring is your choice. I will work alongside you to help you understand yourself better, be really curious about who you are and what you want, and take the time to listen. I will show you acceptance, sincerity and validation and hope that, in time, you can come to show up for yourself in the same way.
Sessions are 50 minutes long and offered on an open-ended basis.
I am trained in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy. This combines strands from Humanistic, Relational Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Most of my sessions are conducted in a person-centred style (a branch of Humanistic counselling) but my skills, experience and knowledge can also bring in helpful parts of the other theoretical backgrounds. I find this a helpful way of working because I can tweak the way we work together to suit you and the issues you are coming to counselling to address.
With young people, I will also use play therapy techniques and with all ages I enjoy making suggestions for and using creative techniques to enhance our work, if appropriate.
My first session
30-Minute Introductory calls - FREE
Fee payable thereafter.
In our first counselling session, I will spend some time getting to know you. I may ask you some brief questions about what has brought you to counselling, whether you have any goals in mind or I might need to find out more information about your physical health (in case of emergencies).
If you are a young person (aged 16-17) I may also ask you about some of your interests, hobbies and whether you are still in education. A first session for a young person may also include a parent or carer so that, as part of the assessment, I can get a bigger picture of how you might be showing your emotions to your caregiver.
What I can help with
ADD / ADHD, Anxiety, Autism spectrum, Bereavement, Child related issues, Chronic fatigue syndrome / ME, Cultural issues, Depression, Disability, Health related issues, Identity issues, Infertility, LGBTQ+ counselling, Loss, Menopause, Men's issues, Mood disorder, Neurodiversity, Personal development, Pregnancy related issues, Redundancy, Relationships, Self esteem, Self-harm, Sexual identity, Sexuality, Spirituality, Stress, Vegan allied, Women's issues, Work related issues
