About me and my therapy practice
Life doesn’t have to be this way. Whatever is going on for you that has led you to consider counselling, I believe that there is a way for things to be different. I hope that the space I offer in therapy would allow you to find that.
Maybe you’re not the person you want to be at the moment……things feel harder to do or make you feel anxious. Maybe you’re snappy or irritable or withdrawn with the people in your life but can’t make sense of it or find a way to change that pattern. Therapy can help.
Often when we’re finding life hard we think we ‘just need to get on with it’ or judge ourselves for finding things hard as ‘others have it much worse than me’. It’s so understandable to feel this way but it leaves us stuck in a loop where things don’t get any better. There is a way for things to be different and whatever you bring is worthy of help.
Some of the areas I’ve worked with clients on include:
• Low self-esteem / confidence
• Work-related issues (including stress and burnout)
• Relationship issues (partner / friendships / family)
• Depression / low mood
• Grief
• Anxiety
• Panic attacks
• Abusive relationships
• Managing the demands of life
• Bullying
• Issues from childhood (abuse, neglect, bullying)
• Trauma
• Managing emotions
• Perfectionism
• Self-criticism
• Feeling like an impostor
• Ageing
• Dealing with chronic illness or a health diagnosis
• Issues with trust
• Feeling stuck
Practice description
I am a qualified integrative counsellor - that means that my work uses a range of counselling theories to best support you. I am an accredited member of BACP and have 5 years experience as a counsellor.
My initial training was a Foundation Degree in Integrative Counselling (University of Ulster). I continue to build on this through further learning with training completed including: Diploma in Developmental Trauma (IACP accredited), Internal Family Systems, Single Session Therapy, Attachment Theory, ASIST suicide prevention and Working with Anxiety.
My first session
I offer a free initial phone call to help you decide if I am the right fit for you. In that call you will share a little of what is bringing you to counselling and get a feel for how I work. I'd encourage you to speak to a few counsellors and trust your instinct on who you would like to work with as that relationship is so important to the process. If I feel that I am not the best fit for whatever you are bringing I will be honest about this and suggest alternatives where possible.
If you decide to go ahead in our first session I will talk you through our contract which sets out how we will work together. We will explore what you hope to get from counselling. We can work together for an agreed number of sessions or on an open ended basis, whichever best suits your needs.
