About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I’m Niki a fully qualified, BACP registered counsellor.

I have a background in healthcare, particularly palliative, neurodiversity and disability, and I know the importance of an holistic approach when meeting an individual’s needs. This theme is central to my counselling work. I aim to work alongside you and offer a peaceful and confidential space to share your difficulty and the impact it is having on you. This process will be empowering and encourage you to reflect on why life has become so hard. It will help you to see what needs to change so that you can find the hope, joy and fulfilment in your life that you deserve.

Practice description

My work is humanistic in approach with a person-centred focus; this means that I will listen and value what you share and not be judgemental or directive. I build empathic therapeutic relationships that enable you to feel safe to share your emotions however uncomfortable and limiting they are so that you develop self-compassion where it may have been lacking. During therapy I may offer you gentle challenges to help you to see how you have learnt to behave in some situations. I may use creative techniques, such as simple drawing, to help shift your subconscious feelings into your consciousness when its hard to put feelings into words. I am always curious as to how people’s emotional difficulties are held physically in their bodies; we may do some exercises to recognise such somatic responses and understand how and why these feelings affect you. Whatever your story the therapy will be bespoke for you.

Since graduating in counselling I have worked for Phoenix Health and Wellbeing in Leeds, as a Specialist Counsellor for MS-UK and a Volunteer Counsellor at SARSVL, a women’s rape and sexual violence support charity based in Leeds. I am also an accredited counsellor with the RNIB.

My first session

When you enquire I will respond to you within 24 hours. I will offer you a free 30 minute phone consultation to help you establish whether you feel we could work together. During this time you may share some of your story, ask questions and discuss how we might schedule the counselling to best suit your needs.
