About me and my therapy practice
I'm a qualified and experienced therapeutic counsellor/trauma therapist working in three locations across London.
My approach is one where you'll be truly heard in an empathic, non-judgemental way, while also supported and challenged to move beyond old, self-defeating patterns. I strive to always provide a safe, warm and trusting space where you feel able to share whatever you're going through.
Some examples of issues I work with:
Anxiety; Anxiety can severely affect our ability to function and enjoy our lives, and can be exhausting and isolating. We will identify the triggers and underlying causes while exploring more effective coping strategies.
Trauma; I have a thorough training in trauma therapy, and recognise that working with PTSD or CPTSD requires great care. I use somatic resourcing tools which help to stabilise emotional regulation, essential for the work to be safe and effective.
Performers/Creative Arts; Having spent many years in the music and theatre industries, I have an experiential understanding of some of the issues unique to this lifestyle. I often work with musicians, actors and other performers/creators to explore their personal challenges.
Relationships; Patterns such as conflict avoidance and people-pleasing limit our choices and mean we’re often surviving rather than thriving. We can work towards finding a more authentic way of connecting which allows you to become the person you want to be.
Life transitions; At times we may face significant changes in our lives. Bereavement, illness, divorce, career change or moving location can be emotionally challenging, bringing up feelings of loss, sadness, insecurities and fears. Therapy can help explore these changes and what they mean for you as you find ways to adapt to a new life.
Boarding School issues; Through my work with ex-boarders, I’ve seen how early detachment from the family and the need to find survival strategies can mean it's difficult to form close, intimate relationships later in life.
Practice description
As an integrative therapist, I draw from different theoretical approaches to best meet the unique individual needs of each person I work with. I'm informed by elements of Humanistic, Psychodynamic and Behavioural theories, and I offer Trauma-informed Somatic resources when appropriate. Most importantly, I will be fully present and engaged with you throughout the process.
Our focus may be on earlier experiences which have shaped your way of being in the world, or it may be more effective to look at the here and now. Often it can be both.
We will work together on processing your painful feelings, exploring underlying issues and past experiences, developing your ability to respond rather than react to events and other people in your life, discover more effective coping tools, and finding new perspectives which can unlock the door to a more fulfilling and meaningful life.
Therapy can be short term or open-ended depending on each client’s needs.
My Background
I was inspired to train as a therapist after receiving invaluable help at a difficult stage of my life. Through injury I was confronted with having to give up my life as a professional musician, something which seemed unimaginable to me.
Working with a therapist gave me the opportunity to find acceptance of my loss, but also to get to know myself at a much deeper level and gain an understanding of the patterns of behaviour which had often held me back. These experiences inspired my journey towards becoming a therapist, and I feel passionate about helping others to find their own ways through their challenges, uncertainty and change.
I have worked as a counsellor for a number of agencies and charities. Currently, alongside my private practice, I work as a bereavement counsellor, helping people who are coming to terms with grief and loss.
My learning is ongoing, as I continually work to develop and deepen my knowledge and experience through further professional training.
My first session
I offer a free initial twenty minute phone call or Zoom meeting, in which we can discuss what you’re looking for, as well as giving you an opportunity to ask any questions about how the process might work. If you feel happy to proceed, we can then arrange a first session together.
