About me and my therapy practice
I am a counsellor working in private practice and have experience supporting people through local charities in the Torbay area. My therapeutic work combines approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, and humanistic counselling. I tend to work with people on a weekly or fortnightly basis, and depending on your needs, either face-to-face, online or by telephone.
My clients describe me as an effective, empathetic, and supportive listener. I hope to create a calm, safe space where you feel seen, heard, and valued, and where kindness, compassion and warmth are lasting take aways from our time together.
Practice description
What has brought you to the BACP directory today? Are you standing at life’s crossroads? How can I help you as you decide which direction to go in?
Maybe you're feeling dissatisfied with life or your current relationships. You might be seeking meaning after a job loss, coping with bereavement, or struggling to find the right work-life balance. I offer support for a range of mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, and chronic stress, as well as supporting people who are facing big life decisions.
My first session
We would have had an initial telephone assessment to see if I am the best fit for you, and your therapeutic needs. Our first session will be about starting a therapeutic relationship in career change psychotherapy, counselling for mental health or relationship counselling.
I will make notes to understand the core themes which you need to work on, and we will map out weekly, or fortnightly goals to bring awareness and accountability. You will be asked to sign the therapeutic agreement.
If you decide to work with me face-to-face, then the journey in and how you have felt leading up to the first session will most likely start us off. And if we are online, we will look at the emotions and feelings around starting while ensuring your space is confidential and safe.
It is for me to watch the clock over 50 minutes, or 90 minutes for relationship counselling. In the past, clients have mentioned how fast the time has gone. I will also use non-verbal communication to check-in with you as we progress in our first session.
At the end of the session, you will be asked to give feedback, and if you are agreeable, there will be some suggested goals to explore.
