About me and my therapy practice
Has something happened that has left you feeling broken? Or are you unsure how you got to where you are now? Perhaps you just need someone to talk to? Whatever you are struggling with, I would like to hear what its like to be you.
I will sit beside you and listen to what is troubling you, without judgment or agenda, so that you can get to know yourself better and learn how to move forward. I can help you untangle your thoughts and feelings and find the patterns that may be holding you back.
You can change how you see yourself and the world for the better. I will help you do this.
I firmly believe that therapy can change lives for the better. It changed mine. My lived experience of healing depression and anxiety through counselling inspired me to train as a therapist.
My training is in integrative therapeutic counselling, principally in the Person-Centred and Pychodynamic models. This means you will be front and centre of the therapy we do. My focus is building a safe yet curious relationship with you that can allow you to explore your thoughts, feelings and sensations in depth.
I also draw on training in Attachment Theory, Poly-Vagal theory, Embodied Meaning, and creative therapy. This allows me to tailor sessions specifically to you.
I have worked as a counsellor in private practice; a Hospice (with patients, the bereaved and carers); a GP Surgery and a school.
My area of special interest is loss, in all its forms: whether that be bereavement, the end of a relationship, family estrangement, the loss of a dream or goal, a loss of energy/ confidence/ yourself or something else. Loss happens to us all yet it is never the same experience. Sometimes it floors us, other times we try to cope or push it aside and it leaks out differently (often worse) but I think there is always something to be learnt about ourselves when the darkness descends.
Practice description
The counselling I offer can help you discover what you need and what you can let go of to feel better about yourself, your relationships and the world.
We work at your pace to your agenda. I offer complete focus and gentle challenge to suggest alternative ways of seeing things but I won't tell you what to think or do.
By exploring your thoughts, feelings, sensations and patterns in a setting of trust and acceptance you will learn what it is you need and deserve to feel more at ease and more hopeful.
My first session
In our first session I will ask you what has brought you to therapy and talk through your hopes and expectations for our work together.
I will set out the way I work and we will make an agreement between us to ensure that you are comfortable to continue, knowing that your sessions are confidential and safe.
In our therapy, you will have the space to be yourself. You are free to express yourself however you like; tears are welcome, ranting is encouraged, swearing is definitely allowed, silence too - it's ok not to know. I am interested in you and how you experience the world, you don't need to filter yourself or share more than you are comfortable with.
