About me and my therapy practice
When life feels busy and out of balance, and it feels like you never have enough time to recover people often start to experience anxiety and feelings of being overwhelmed. Strangely at these times, it can be hard to say no to other people – even when you want to – and so time and space for yourself become even harder to find. You feel like you ‘should’ be able to cope so work hard to find solutions to the extent that people say you think too much, or that you’re hard on yourself. You feel trapped in a cycle you can't find your way out of.
In fact, these are all indications that you may be burned out. They are also a sign of how deeply you care. But sadly, the pressures of modern life tell us that we must strive to do more and be better. When you are burned out it doesn’t feel like there are enough hours in the day so something has to give and all too often, that something is time for yourself.
Counselling gives you a moment in the week that is just for you. It’s a time dedicated to slowing things down so that you can explore how and why the balance is ‘off’ in your life. By understanding this, you can start to see your way out of the trap, on your terms.
As well as being a counsellor and life coach, I have personal experience of burnout which means I know how trapped and powerless you can feel when you are stuck in the cycle of burning out, taking a break and expecting everything to return to ‘normal’ only to find yourself back at burnout again. And I know just how hard it can be to break that cycle.
This means I have a unique insight that we can draw on to help you understand the relationship between stress, anxiety, burnout and fatigue and how they are affecting your mind, body and sense of self, the experiences that have lead you to this point and how you can move forward into a more balanced, healthier future.
Practice description
I work online or on the phone with people from all over the UK. I combine person-centred counselling with life coaching which means that I will work with you to find the approach that works best to help you find the answers, understanding and insight that you need in order to heal and break the cycle of burnout.
People I have worked with tell me:
• Their relationships have improved which means they start to feel more connected and less alone.
• They are more able to say no and set boundaries which means they have more room to breathe, think more clearly and get more perspective.
• They start to trust that things will be ok which gives them more curiosity to try new things.
• They are more able to accept themselves in all their imperfect glory which means they are more able to be themselves.
• They start to look forward to the future.
If you are ready to discuss the next step, please get in touch.
My first session
When you are feeling burned out and like you have to everything to everybody it can be really hard to make the time and space for yourself. That is the first step towards recovery so I encourage you to take a deep breath and take the plunge.
The first session can be scary, especially if you don't know what to expect. When we meet for the first time, it is a chance for us to get to know one another. I will explain in more detail about how I work and I will invite you to tell me a bit about yourself and what has brought you to this point. I will answer any questions or concerns you have and we can see how it feels to work together.
