About me and my therapy practice
This might be a time in your life when you are experiencing a crisis or life feels hard. Perhaps you are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, anxious or depressed. Or maybe you want to understand yourself better. Making the decision to seek out therapy might feel very daunting. I have also felt like this and my own experience of therapy played a large part in my decision to train as a counsellor.
I am an integrative counsellor/therapist, working with clients on a broad range of subjects including anxiety, depression, loss, relationship problems and self esteem issues. Central to my approach, is the therapeutic relationship between us. I provide a safe, nurturing and non-judgmental space where you can explore and work through your thoughts and feelings. You will be heard and met with compassion and care.
My style of working means that I draw from several theories of practice. I believe that each of us is unique and what might work for one person may not for another and so I am able to work in a way that will be most beneficial to you and your needs. This includes considering current life events and relationships and how you make meaning of your life. I may ask you to be curious about or draw attention to how you are feeling in your body.
Sometimes, exploring your early relationships and experiences can help you to become aware of patterns of behaviour that may not serve you so well in the present and can enable understanding of how this continues to influence and affect you and your relationships with others.
Above all, by taking this step and showing this care and compassion for yourself, you are already on the path to gaining a deeper awareness and understanding of yourself and making the choice to make positive change.
Practice description
I hold a Diploma in Integrative Counselling (DipCon) awarded by the Minster Centre in London, one of Europe’s leading institutes for Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and practice according to their ethical framework.
As well as running my own practice, I have worked as a counsellor at a low cost womens’ counselling service and as a bereavement counsellor for Wandsworth Bereavement Service.
I work individually with adults. I see clients weekly and I generally work in an open-ended way. Together we can decide if this is the best way to work or whether it is preferable to agree a set amount of time. We sit face to face in chairs and it is important that you feel comfortable and safe in the room. This style of therapy means that we collaborate and I want to ensure that you feel seen and heard.
My first session
After our first communication we can arrange an initial assessment. The aim of this is to meet face to face, or online if that is how we will be working, and for you to see whether you would like to work with me as your therapist. The assessment is an opportunity for me to find out what has brought you to therapy and for you to ask any questions about how I work and ultimately to decide if my style works for you. If you decide you would like to continue, the sessions are at the same time every week for 50 minutes.
