About me and my therapy practice
I am a fully qualified, experienced counsellor and psychotherapist (FDSc and BA Hons Counselling), and a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I work with individuals on a short and long-term basis within a safe, supportive, non-judgemental, and confidential space. Alongside my private practice I work in the charity sector, offering counselling for a diverse range of issues within the local community.
My practice is based on the understanding that we develop our sense of who we are, our beliefs and expectations, through our earliest relationships and experiences. In childhood we develop strategies to get our needs met, stay safe, and survive. Sometimes, in adulthood, these strategies no longer serve us well and can prevent us from living authentic, fulfilling lives. Whilst not about blame, understanding these patterns helps to clarify what is happening today and develops self-awareness, self-compassion, choice and empowerment leading to improved emotional well-being.
The relationship you develop with your therapist is a significant factor in an effective therapeutic outcome. It is important you find someone you feel you can work with, and I offer a free 30-minute consultation (telephone). If you feel I am not the right fit for you, that’s okay, and I may be able to suggest alternative support. It can take a lot of courage to make the first step and I want to ensure it is a really positive one.
Sessions last 50 minutes and usually take place on a weekly basis. I charge £60 per session. I offer concessionary rates for students and those on a low income but spaces are limited and subject to availability.
