About me and my therapy practice
We can all experience times in life when we feel overwhelmed and unable to cope. At these times counselling can offer that extra support that is needed. Whatever it might be, whether it be due to something significant such as a relationship breakdown, bereavement or loss, or as can often be the case a general build up of life's stresses that leave us feeling out of control and unable to live a happy and fulfilling life. Whether it be something from your past or your present, counselling provides a safe and confidential space to discuss what is going on for you.As a Person-centred therapist the therapeutic relationship is key to our work together, and so I offer you an empathy rich private and confidential space that is non-judgemental. This space and our relationship will enable you to explore your world and experiences, promoting self-understanding, self-acceptance and self-compassion.
I have experience of working with a range of issues such as anxiety & depression, childhood trauma, life change, domestic violence, loss and bereavement. I have previously provided counselling for a Carers' Charity and Victim Support
Practice description
"When someone really hears you without passing judgement on you, without trying to take responsibility for you, without trying to mould you, it feels damn good" Carl Rogers (founder of Person-Centred therapy)
Person-Centred counselling is a talking therapy that places a client and their personal experiences central to the therapy session. I work in a non-directive way trusting that my client will talk about what is most pressing to them, although I will also bring a client's awareness to the things they appear to be avoiding. I hope to gain a true sense of what it is to be you, to live in your world and experiences, often through this process a client will gain new insight, understanding and acceptance of themselves.
Person-centred therapy is based upon the belief that we all have within us the resources to make informed choices and improve our lives; working together we can unlock these resources
My first session
To get the most out of counselling it's important to find a counsellor that is a good fit for you. To enable this, I offer a free 20-minute 'taster' when we can discuss your reasons for considering counselling and I can answer any questions you may have. This conversation usually takes place via Zoom or by telephone. My hope is that this will also enable you to decide whether I'm the right counsellor to help you.
