About me and my therapy practice
Life can be overwhelming. Perhaps things are feeling too much right now, but you are telling yourself that you *should* be able to handle it. Maybe you are not feeling fully or wholly yourself.
I'm Heather, a BACP Accredited Counsellor, and together we can uncover and explore what is causing you difficulty, and find a way through.
I offer you a space to be seen, heard, and accepted in all your wholeness. We will explore what has brought you to therapy, and I will help you to bring greater awareness to what is happening for you. I will support you to reconnect with yourself, allowing you to look for new possibilities and to respond to life in a more choiceful way.
My practice is inclusive of all sexualities and genders, and I work affirmatively with those who are curious, questioning, coming out, or navigating this heteronormative society as an LGBTQ+ and/or GSRD (gender, sex, relationship diverse) individual.
I work with adults on an individual basis. These are some of the things people bring to my practice. It is by no means an exhaustive list, and nothing is too small to bring to counselling if it is causing you difficulty or distress.
- Feeling anxious
- Feeling overwhelmed, stressed or burnt out
- LGBTQ+ and/or GSRD identity
- Feeling stuck, trapped, or lost
- Feeling low, sad, or depressed
- Low confidence or low self-esteem
- People-pleasing tendencies
- Life changes or periods of change
- Relationship difficulties; or difficulty connecting with others
Qualifications & training
I am BACP Accredited Counsellor, and I adhere to their ethical guidelines. My registered member number is: 389602.
Diploma in Gender, Sex & Relationship Diversity Therapy (Level 6) - Pink Therapy; (with distinction in final paper)
Diploma in Counselling - The Gestalt Centre
Certificate in Humanistic Counselling - The Gestalt Centre
Practice description
Location
I am based in Belper, Derbyshire and offer face-to-face counselling sessions from my comfortable and vibrant therapy room in my home.
The area is well-served by buses and the train (I am a 10-minute walk from Belper train station, with bus stops even closer); and there is plenty of on-street car parking.
Please note that the therapy room is on the first floor and accessed via a flight of stairs.
Online sessions:
I also offer online counselling sessions via a video platform. Online sessions have many benefits:
- Save time: Online counselling fits around your lifestyle. There's no need to travel, saving you time and planning. This makes online counselling well-suited to those with busy schedules.
- Access counselling, wherever you are: You may live in, or often travel to, a different area (or even country). Online sessions offer a way to break down those geographical barriers to your preferred counsellor. With online sessions, you can access counselling, wherever you are.
- Stay comfortable: Online counselling allows you to access counselling from the comfort of your own space.
- Connect: In my experience, online counselling allows for deep, moving, and vibrant connection, just as with face-to-face counselling. Have you ever laughed or cried at a film or TV show? If so, you have experienced the powerful emotion and connection that can be conveyed and received through a screen.
For online sessions, you will need a strong and secure internet connection, and a device that has a camera (preferably a laptop or tablet, but mobile phones can also work if placed on a stable stand).
