Online counselling offers you the convenience of your sessions being outside of working hours if needed, in your own home, saving you having to travel to your counselling sessions. Bear in mind you’ll need a confidential space to work from and a decent internet connection. Most of my sessions are now online. Sessions take place using MS Teams which means you don’t have to download any software to your computer, tablet or phone. Your invitation link brings you straight into the video session without the need for installed software at your end.
In-person counselling offers the opportunity for us to interact in the same physical space - there’s something very different about talking with someone in-person rather than on a screen. Sessions commonly now take place on a ‘walk-and-talk’ basis in Knaresborough, UK.
About me and my therapy practice
Are you struggling to make sense of your life at the moment? Perhaps you aren’t feeling like yourself, or are worrying about something that is making you unhappy or anxious?
Counselling, or talking therapy, is an opportunity to explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe, confidential environment. As a person-centred counsellor, I focus on your needs as an individual and work with you to help resolve the issues that are affecting you. I will help you to work out what is happening for you, without judgement or agenda. Together we can explore how you can feel better and more like the self you recognise.
I am a humanistic, person-centred counsellor, which means I focus on your needs as an individual, recognising that everybody is unique and special.
I believe in offering you a safe, confidential environment and in helping you in a completely non-judgemental manner without agenda and without telling you what to do.
I believe you are the expert on yourself, and with my help, can discover what you need to do to understand yourself and your feelings.
Life can be hard to navigate, but I can walk alongside you to help you find your way.
I specialise in one-to-one counselling, working with adults aged 18 and over.
Practice description
All of my sessions have a common theme and purpose; to enable you to share your thoughts, worries and concerns. Together we will explore them to help you begin the journey towards understanding and resolving them. You can book each week’s session as you go to fit around your calendar, or attend on the same day and time each week if you prefer. I offer the following ways of counselling:
Online video counselling sessions
These one-to-one sessions take place via MS Teams and last up to 50 minutes. I will talk with you from a private room in my home. You will need a confidential space to work from and a decent internet connection. I don’t recommend online couselling sessions on the go, whilst you're driving or out walking, for your safety.
'Walk and Talk' counselling sessions
These face-to-face, one-to-one sessions take place in various locations around Knaresborough, North Yorkshire. We can select a route and location that suits you while maintaining privacy. Sessions last up to 50 minutes and are during the daytime, weather permitting and subject to availability.
In-person counselling sessions
These one-to-one, face-to-face sessions take place in a private room in my home in Knaresborough. Sessions last up to 50 minutes and are during daytime, subject to availability.
Brief counselling sessions
This one-to-one, extended single session takes place online, on a ‘Walk and Talk’ basis, or in a private room in my home. This one-off session will be a more solution-focused session designed to offer you a space to express what is worrying you. We will then endeavour to work together to help you try to resolve your more immediate, short-term problem. Brief counselling sessions are not suited to longer-term or more deeply-rooted issues, which will require more sessions to properly address. Sessions last up to 60 minutes. £75 per session.
Costs for regular sessions:
£50 per session if you pay as you go.
£270 if you prepay for 6 sessions (saving you £30 - equivalent to £45 per session).
My first session
You can book straight in if you are ready to get started with your counselling, or if you prefer, get in touch to arrange a free, online 20-minute initial chat.
During your free, online 20-minute initial chat you will be able to ask questions about how the counselling will work specifically for you, including which of the types of counselling listed above you would prefer, and details such as dates and times for the counselling sessions.
We will have the opportunity to get to know one another a little, and for you to decide if you feel you would like to go ahead and work with me. Once you are happy, we can arrange to start the counselling sessions themselves.
During your first counselling session, we will complete some paperwork first around confidentiality, logistics and payment (which typically takes about 15minutes). We will then start the work proper together.
