About me and my therapy practice
Working with me takes a personalised approach, I try to tailor our sessions to suit your needs. I offer online sessions via GoogleMeet, that last between 35-50 minutes depending on the content that we cover. Confidentiality, openness and honesty are always at the core of our sessions together. Ensuring you have a safe space to explore what it is that you are going through, in depth and without fear of being judged by me.
I started my journey into counselling as a listening volunteer for the Samaritans. From here I developed my passion for helping people through counselling and listening. I qualified in 2001 as a person centred therapist, and since then have been developing my practice and transitioning to counselling full time (I also have another role working in a completely different corporate industry).
My sessions always revolve around you - always. We work with what you bring to session, putting you at the centre of the discussions we have. Together we explore, in depth the topics that you wish to discuss, as and when you are ready, with no pressure to talk about things you are not ready to go into yet.
I offer questioning, reflection and often challenges to the subjects that we discuss together, giving you the chance to really analyse what is going on for you.
Through questioning we outline the issues in detail.
Through reflection I offer other, alternative ways of thinking about your issue.
Through challenges, we highlight areas where there may be discrepancies in the way we are viewing things and work backward through questioning and reflection why this might be.
Where the magic happens, is when we start to get some interventions and realisations through the work we do together, these are always all the more powerful because they have come from you rather than from me telling you what to do or offering you advice.
Please feel free to reach out to me for a free 10-15 minute consultation.
Best wishes,
Tom
My first session
I offer an initial 20 minute consultation free of charge. This consultation it is a chance for you to ask any questions you may have about the way I work and for us to get to know each other a little bit. It is also a chance for me to get an idea about the kind of aims and goals you are seeking from counselling and if it something that I would be able to help you with.
After this initial consultation, we will arrange our first session together. They usually last up to 50 minutes and will be taken completely at your pace, in a relaxed, confidential environment where you will be listened to and given a chance to talk about whatever is on your mind.
The beginning of the session we will usually go over the counselling contract, ensuring that we both understand how the counselling will work and that we are both on the same page. After this, the session will commence.
At the end of the session, if you feel comfortable, we will arrange a time and date for our next session.
