About me and my therapy practice
Sometimes we want to 'change' but it remains difficult to find ways that stick. I am passionate about working with people towards a more fulfilling and empowered life. Together we can explore, not what's wrong with you, but what's happened to you. A greater awareness of ourselves can allow a greater compassion for ourselves and enable us to make choices more suited to our real needs and thereby better suited to our true self. A more sustainable way forward.
Counselling is an opportunity to talk and be listened to by someone trained in counselling - I aim to create a safe, empathic and non-judgmental environment so you can talk freely and confidentially as we explore these things together in your sessions.
Practice description
My theoretical approach is integrative, meaning I draw from a group of theories from person-centred and psychodynamic. Some help with an understanding of what is going on in the here and now, and some help our understanding of how our past contributes to how we relate to events/people in our present. This awareness opens us up to making more informed choices for ourselves going forwards.
We are all ultimately the expert on ourselves, but this can be skewed as we grow up and take on expectations and values of those around us and the world around us. Speaking with a counsellor/therapist can open up that greater awareness of ourselves - allowing a greater compassion for ourselves, enabling us to make choices more in line with our real needs.
As a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) I follow their ethical guidelines, undertaking supervision to ensure safe practice for both my clients and myself; and undergoing regular professional development training.
I have a CPCAB Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and I work with a wide range of mental health and wellbeing issues.
CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Integrative Therapeutic Counselling
CPCAB Level 3 in Counselling Theory
CPCAB Level 2 in Counselling Skills
I have worked with a various concerns including anxiety, depression, abuse, relationship difficulties, work issues and low self-esteem.
My first session
As a therapist, I am committed to providing counselling in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment. When working face to face I have a quiet and private practice space in Sonning Common.
You will have the opportunity to talk about what issues bring you to seek therapy and our first session is also a chance for you to ask any further questions that you may have about the process of counselling and how I work. It will also be another opportunity for us to explore if we feel that we are the right 'fit' for beginning to work together in therapy.
Please feel free to contact me to arrange a no-obligation, confidential chat. If I am in practice and can't answer then please do leave a message and I will call you back as soon as I can.
