About me and my therapy practice
If you face each day hiding your tears and living your life behind that " yer, i am ok mask", your world sounds lonely and a real struggle.
If you are able to get through your day, do people just think your ok and coping. Well, let me ask you, how are you, how are you feeling?
So who am I? Hello I am Julie. I have overcome my own personal challenges, I get it, the internal battles, that anyone can face. The negative voices that once told me I wasn't good enough became a catalyst for my mission to prove that it is never too late to follow your dreams. At 46, I achieved my qualification as a counsellor and have never looked back.
I have dedicated myself to working alongside my clients, creating a warm, empathetic, and non-judgmental space. I have also been privileged to serve as a voluntary counsellor with Herts Mind Network since 2018 and joined the IAPT Scheme (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies). These roles have enriched my understanding and ability to assist clients from all walks of life. My practice is rooted in the belief that everyone deserves a safe place to explore their feelings and challenges without fear of judgment. Working from a humanistic approach, which gives you the safe space to talk and feel your words are heard and you will be in a warm and safe place.
This may feel like a massive step but talking to someone is a step in the right direction.
I offer short or long-term counselling, depending on your individual requirements. Nobody can appreciate what may come to the surface during therapy which is why it's entirely your choice to choose how long you are in treatment.
Thank you for considering Hummingbird Counselling. I look forward to being a part of your journey.
Practice description
I offer a safe, compassionate space to explore your thoughts and feelings. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, or relationship issues, our warm and empathetic approach helps guide you toward healing and personal growth.
I work from a Person Centred Approach,
https://www.bacp.co.uk/about-therapy/types-of-therapy/person-centred-counselling
This approach was founded in the 1940s by the American psychologist Carl Rogers who believed that, given the right conditions, a person can reach their full potential and become their true self, which he termed ‘self-actualisation’. This actualisation process is innate and accessible to everyone.
To help you achieve self-actualisation, the person-centred therapist will offer:
unconditional positive regard (UPR) – accepting and valuing you
congruence - being honest and transparent in how they experience you and your world
empathic understanding – seeing your viewpoint as if they were you
You’ll are encouraged to bring your own issues to the session – the counselling is led by you and not directed by me. I am there to listen to you and given a safe place to explore your potential .
You will be able to explore your own issues, feelings, beliefs, behaviour, and worldview, so you can become more self-aware and achieve greater independence.
With Herts Mind Network I have had experience of offering counselling sessions in Care & Nursing Home which offers the ability for everyone to feel heard.
I am a accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
I am fully insured, hold a enhanced DBS and I am registered with the ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office).
My first session
I offer a free 30 minute explorative session, this is crucial for establishing a foundation for your therapeutic journey. In this session, my aim for you is to create a safe enviroment where there is no judgement. As the rapport we can start to get to know each other and and look at your world. Building rapport is essential for developing a trusting therapeutic relationship.
We will discussing confidentiality: By looking and discussing confidentiality, outlining what is shared within therapy and the limits of confidentiality (e.g., if there are concerns about safety).
I do send out a new client form, this asks for some personal information, as well as the reasons for seeking therapy, including your current challenges and goals. This helps the counselor understand your situation and begin formulating a treatment plan.
