About me and my therapy practice
Are you feeling anxious or experiencing low mood? Do you struggle with low self-esteem? Have you been through a trauma? Do you need someone to talk to?
I am an accredited trauma- informed counsellor. My main modality is person-centred but I take an integrative approach. My practice is based on the core conditions of empathy, congruence and non-judgement. I will bring in elements from other theories such as CBT, positive psychology, somatic therapy and psychoeducation to meet your needs and support you in the best way I can.
I have specialist training in: working with trauma and PTSD (including the Rewind technique); bereavement, including bereavement by suicide; working with risk and suicidal ideation; and supporting victims of sexual violence.
I have experience working in a range of counselling services. I currently work in private practice and part-time in a university counselling service supporting students. I work with a lot of general anxiety and depression and often support students struggling with a diagnosis of ADHD and/or Autism. I am also a specialist counsellor supporting male students who have experienced any form of sexual violence.
I am registered with BUPA, WPA, Aviva, AXA and Unmind.
I work with adults over 18 and specialise in anxiety and low mood, low self-esteem, bereavement, relationship difficulties, trauma and PTSD, abuse and sexual violence, including childhood abuse.
Practice description
As a person-centred counsellor, I make our relationship a priority and know how much building trust enables you to open up, reflect and grow inner strength and resilience. I aim to create a safe space where you can feel comfortable bringing whatever you need to share.
I will give you the space and time to explore whatever issues you are facing. You can examine any difficulties openly and honestly and take the time you need to understand your thoughts, feelings and beliefs. I am an empathetic listener and will listen to you carefully and without judgement so that I can help you make sense of your internal world.
I often consider core beliefs, how they impact your thoughts, feelings and behaviours in the present and how we can challenge these limiting beliefs. I believe that you have the capacity to change and grow and with the right support, you can become the person you want to be.
I will support you with warmth and encouragement as we work to overcome any challenges you face. I aim to help you realise the inner resources you have and will enable you to become more self-aware and confident in the choices you make for yourself. I see you as the expert in your own life and will strive to empower you to make any changes you think will be beneficial.
I will help you identify small, manageable steps to start making adjustments to improve your life. You will leave feeling confident that you have the tools you need to cope with current difficulties as well as any future challenges.

I offer walk and talk therapy sessions in Saltwell Park.
In the heart of Gateshead, Saltwell Parks offers a peaceful green space for therapy. It is fully accessible and has facilities such as a free car park, toilets and cafe.
Walk and talk, also known as outdoor therapy, is a type of therapy where we walk together while discussing any issues you want to focus on. It has several benefits, including:
Greater sense of connection: Walking can help you to connect more deeply with yourself, your therapist, and nature.
Emotional and mental clarity: Physical activity can sharpen both self-awareness and emotional awareness and help improve mental clarity and focus.
Improved mood: Getting out in the fresh air can help improve mood and reduce feelings of stress and anger.
Increased mindfulness: Being outdoors can make it easier for you to relax, stop ruminating, release physical tension, and breathe deeply.
Opportunities to explore new perspectives: Walk and talk therapy can be beneficial if you find traditional therapy settings uncomfortable, find it easier to talk while moving and/or feel anxious or claustrophobic in a room.
Better physical health: Walk and talk therapy can improve overall health and well-being by providing an opportunity to get physical activity while receiving therapy.
Please note the last appointment time available for walk and talk therapy in the park from October is 3:30pm.
I am accepting new clients so please do get in touch.
