About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified and registered therapist with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. I practice integrative therapy, working with adults and young people aged 15 and over. I offer face-to-face therapy in Bristol and see clients online.
I am a compassionate and experienced human and therapist. I help clients understand their relationship to themselves, others, and the world and to change, develop, and progress in their lives.
My practice has a philosophical component that explores how we make meaning and purpose in our lives, acknowledging the struggles and joy this can create. In my work with clients, I offer alternative ways of interacting with anxiety and depression that support people to understand and accept themselves.
Therapy can be a place to come to during distress and despair. It can also be a much-needed space to explore and unpack past experiences, helping change and development become possible.
Therapy with me is not a linear process; how we work together will develop and change over time. I will focus on building a solid and trusting relationship with you, which is critical to successful therapy.
Psychotherapy Experience
I trained as a Psychotherapist at The Minster Centre in London, a pioneering and well-respected institution. In addition to my private therapy practice, I have worked as a therapist for independent charities and an NHS service at The Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust London. I have experience delivering short-, medium-- and long-term therapeutic work.
I have a current enhanced DBS certificate (Disclosure and Barring service)
Health Practitioner Experience
I am an experienced registered nurse and health visitor with vast experience working with all age groups and their short—and long-term physical and mental health needs. I specialise in mental health for parents of young children.
I have worked extensively with older adolescents who have emotional difficulties.
Practice description
Therapy with me.
What is integrative therapy?
As an integrative therapist, I trained in psychodynamic, person-centred, existential phenomenology, and embodied psychotherapy. I see great value in my integrative training, as it enables me to use my expertise and skills to develop distinctive and bespoke therapy for each client I meet. Each therapy is as unique as the person in front of me.
My commitment to and engagement with the ethical standards set by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and the United Kingdom Council of Psychotherapy, of which I am a member, underpin my therapy practice.
What to expect in therapy.
In therapy with me, you can expect to talk about and express your thoughts, feelings, and bodily responses and sensations. How you talk about your life and at what pace you do this is up to you. I will listen to you carefully and be curious with you. I will offer my view on the experiences you share.
I will ask you about the entirety of your life; this may or may not happen in chronological order, depending on what you are coming to therapy for and about.
We will explore your childhood experience constructively. I invite you to think and talk about your childhood and the relationships you had as a child and young person. Are these people still in your life, and how have these relationships changed? Reflecting on early life experiences can help contextualise your current sense of yourself and others.
I will ask about overwhelming or unsafe experiences in your life as a child, young person and adult. Have you had grief, losses, or shocks, and how have you lived with these experiences? What is living every day like for you? What is pleasurable, uncomfortable or painful, and what do you engage in or avoid?
I will work with you in an embodied way. I will ask you simple questions about how you experience bodily sensations. This is very helpful when working with any trauma.
My first session
How we begin.
I invite you to contact me so we can arrange an assessment consultation. This session is a collaborative effort, a time for you to speak openly about what brings you through my door. Together, we will explore any aims you might have for therapy, and I will offer you my initial assessment of how we might work together. I will outline my style of practice for you, and there will be an opportunity for any questions you might have.
The assessment session fee is the same as my regular session rate.
