Availability

I offer online therapy over Zoom including daytime and evening sessions.

Online sessions give you the flexibility to choose a location where you feel at ease without the time and expense of travelling. Many clients find it easier to open up about problems when in the safety of their own homes, but you may choose another location where you feel secure and have privacy. This can be helpful if you are travelling, or want to connect from different places that are meaningful to you. We might discuss objects that hold significance for you or find coping strategies that you can implement in your environment.

About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I’m Janie. I’m a psychotherapist specialising in helping clients overcome anxiety and trauma. I work pluralistically – what that means is that I’ll work with you to tailor therapy according to your needs and preferences.

I believe we both bring expertise to the table. You are the expert on yourself – your history, preferences and what direction and pace you’d like your healing journey to take. You know what's likely to to help you (and what to avoid). I bring experience working in this area and can offer different tools and perspectives.

Different things work for different people at different times. Sometimes what you may most need is to feel truly heard and understood, at other times perhaps you’d be helped by learning coping skills. If words fail, or in the past talking hasn’t brought relief, then we may use a range of creative approaches.

Trauma affects the body as much as the mind. My background is as a biologist and I previously worked as a massage therapist. As a psychotherapist, I know the body holds both knowledge and wisdom, and we may use somatic approaches to help you process difficult emotions and memories so you can recover the ability to feel safe in your body once more.

Finally, I fundamentally believe there is hope to recover and live well. One of the reasons I’m passionate about working with anxiety and trauma is that healing is possible. However you’re feeling right now, it’s only a point on the journey. Let's work together to move forward towards your chosen destination. Healing is possible. There is hope for a brighter tomorrow.

Practice description

Deciding to heal is an act of bravery: it takes courage to change patterns of thought, feeling and behaviour. This is especially true if current-day events are echoing situations in the past. I have a particular interest in helping clients overcome anxiety and the legacies of abuse or trauma.

You may be all too familiar with feelings of stress, anxiety and trauma. The good news is that healing is possible. You can reclaim, (or even find for the first time) a felt-sense of safety in both mind and body.  It possible to explore the light and shade of your experiences, whether past or present.

I can draw on a range of approaches and encourage you to share your own ideas about what might help you. If the words don’t come easily, or talking isn’t enough, we can use creativity or somatic approaches to gain insights and process feelings. You are the expert on what we need to look at and when: this is your healing journey.

Do get in touch if you'd like to begin exploring what your future could hold.

My first session

I offer a free 20-minute exploratory consultation over Zoom so you can get a sense of how we might work together, and be confident that we are a good fit before booking a session.

You can ask me questions, and discuss your hopes and any fears you may have about therapy. It’s also an opportunity and go over some of the practicalities before starting such as confidentiality and the process for payment and booking without this taking up time in a session.
