About me and my therapy practice
Hello and welcome,
My name is Kayan. I am an Integrative Counsellor and Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. As a member of the BACP I abide by their code of ethics, to practice in safe and ethical manner.
As an Integrative Counsellor I am inspired by a multitude of psychotherapeutic modalities, each helping to compliment and support my work. I also take inspiration from influences as wide as science, philosophy, religion, spirituality, eastern thought and Buddhism, shamanism and magic. I take a holistic view to healing that incorporates knowledge throughout the ages and incorporates the body.
How this translates into a therapy approach is an attitude of openness and curiosity about your experience, prizing you as the expert of your own experience and me a guide in helping you understand this experience and unlock your potential. Working in an integrative-relational style means I believe healing takes place in relationship, when you can feel safe with me to explore your innermost self without judgment. We do this completely at your pace, developing a sense of trust.
How counselling can help?
There is no truer adage “that a problem shared is a problem halved.” I would add to that, speaking to an impartial, non-judgemental person that truly listens, not just to the content of what you are saying but the emotional tone and notices your embodied sense can be an incredibly powerful experience. It helps to foster greater awareness and understand of how you are in the world and in relationships. This deepening sense of awareness allows for greater choice with your behaviour and a move to more healthy behaviours and relationships.
I understand that approaching me for therapy might be a daunting prospect or it might be exhilarating, I want to assure you wherever you are in this process, I will help guide you through it.
Practice description
I am working online, over the phone and in person. If in person is preferred, we can discuss how we can do this in the safest possible way.
I work from two physical spaces, London Bridge and South Woodford.
Sessions are 50 minutes at the same time each week.
My first session
I offer a free twenty-minute initial call or zoom meeting, this is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and see if we are a good fit. It is perfectly okay for you to take some time to think about it, it is also okay if it does feel right to ask for a first session to be booked in.
The first session might be slightly longer than 50 minutes, this is because I may try to get a sense of your history and reasons for coming to therapy. This is also an opportunity for you to ask me any questions about the therapy process and what you can expect. I am also happy to answer these questions at any point in the therapy.
What I can help with
Abuse, Addictions, Anger management, Anxiety, Autism spectrum, Bereavement, Cultural issues, Depression, Disability, Health related issues, Identity issues, Loss, Men's issues, Personal development, Post-traumatic stress, Relationships, Self esteem, Self-harm, Sex-related issues, Sexual identity, Sexuality, Spirituality, Stress, Substance Dependency, Trauma, Work related issues
