About me and my therapy practice
I am a counsellor and psychotherapist with many years of practice experience, as well as a qualified medical doctor.
My therapeutic approach is relational-integrative, which means I see the therapeutic relationship as crucial to becoming unstuck, making progress, and achieving change. It also means I integrate strategies from a multitude of therapeutic models to suit my clients’ needs. I believe that every client is different and needs a tailored way of working with, depending on their personality, background, and life situation. My professional experience as well as my life experience are key tools in providing clients with the highest quality of care.
Examples of therapeutic models I use in my work are Person-centred Therapy, Relational Therapy, CBT, DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy) and Transactional Analysis.
Previously, I trained and worked as a medical doctor in the fields of surgery, internal medicine, and obstetrics & gynaecology. My interest in mental health led me to later qualify as a psychotherapist, a role I am passionate about. I held positions as a counsellor at a higher education college and as a university lecturer, and I enjoy teaching trainee therapists at various stages of their education, including MSc level.
I have lived in Germany, the USA, Iceland, and Holland, and as a mum of four, I love supporting young people through difficulties and helping them improve their mental health.
I have been working with adolescents as well as adult clients. I like to create an alliance based on warmth, respect, and trust, where clients feel safe and empowered to make positive changes and achieve their full potential.
The use of the title Dr in this directory listing relates to the member’s doctorate qualification. However, this does not imply a general medical qualification.
Practice description
Currently, I offer therapy sessions online only, or via telephone.
The length of therapy can be short-term or longer term, depending on the client’s needs.
My first session
Our first session will be an opportunity to get to know each other and decide if we would like to work together.
