About me and my therapy practice
My name is Melissa and I am a warm, thoughtful, empathic person, which makes me a compassionate counsellor who will genuinely care about you, the difficulties you’re facing and the improvement of your wellbeing. I am an integrative counsellor, which means I use different skills and techniques to work with whatever you bring to the sessions.
For example, you might want a safe space where you can talk freely and openly about thoughts and feelings you are struggling with. This also might involve supporting you to make connections from current difficulties to past experiences. Helping you understand yourself at a deeper level, which can lead to personal growth and healing.
You might want supported to manage how you are feeling and use the sessions to alleviate painful and distressing symptoms experienced from trauma, anxiety, stress or depression and I have a wide range of experience providing individually tailored strategies and techniques to help you work through your difficulties.
Or you might want supported through a painful loss, relationship problems or help with low self-esteem and confidence.
Whatever brings you to counselling, I am fully committed to providing an environment where you will feel safe, accepted, and supported to work through your difficulties to make lasting changes.
'One day at a time, one step at a time, one breath at a time'.
Practice description
If you feel I am the right counsellor for you, I offer a free first telephone consultation. Email me at melissa_mcnamee@outlook.com and I will get back to you, generally within 24 hours, to organise a mutually convenient time for us to talk about how I can help you.
After this, if you wish to proceed, we will book in our first session. I offer one to one, 50 minute sessions, online or by telephone.
My first session
The first session we will get to know each other better, begin to develop a deeper understanding of the difficulties you are facing, and talk through what you would like to get from our sessions. It is also a chance for me to talk to you about the counselling process, fill you in on all the practicalities, and go through a working agreement, so we are both clear on what to expect.
I understand thinking about coming to counselling can be daunting, and I want you to know my priority is to make you feel as comfortable as possible, by providing a warm, welcoming, safe confidential space belonging to you. Where you can go at your own pace, sharing what feels right and comfortable, putting your needs at the heart of therapy.
