About me and my therapy practice
Individual therapy
You come to counselling to get support during challenging times, or because you have a persistent feeling that things simply aren’t improving. I provide a safe, non-judgmental and confidential space to explore those feelings, by establishing an empathetic therapeutic relationship. This helps me to understand how you are experiencing things, allowing me to support you in gaining valuable insight into why you feel the way you do as a unique individual.
Once you have the insight I can support you in finding ways to live a more content and fulfilled life. Research shows that supporting clients to find their own solutions, has the best long-term impact.
You may also want to know how to move things on and make sustained long-term change in your life. My training combines counselling and coaching skills so we can work together to develop ways to be proactive to facilitate changes for your future too.
Couples' therapy
In couples therapy I support clients in looking deeply into themselves and understanding and sharing the emotions that drive the disconnection in their relationship. Once we have understood the causes and impact of this disconnection and how it plays out, we can work to develop a closer emotional connection to create love and closeness.
When working with couples, I use an approach called Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). EFT aims to identify unhealthy patterns in relationships and their causes and help couples to communicate and accept each other’s emotional needs. This in turn helps them to form stronger emotional bonds.
EFT is currently one of the most researched and successful approaches to couples’ therapy.
Through EFT, I am able to support couples with challenges such as:
- Unhealthy patterns in relationships
- Feeling stuck in a current conflict
- Betrayal
- Feelings of disconnection
- Impact of external factors on the relationship – (Eg addiction)
- Impact of depression and anxiety on a relationship
