About me and my therapy practice

Hello and welcome,

I am a person-centred counsellor working in a trauma-informed way. That means I believe we all have an innate capacity to heal, grow, recover from trauma, and live life more fully. I also believe the only way to help my clients is to work slowly, making sure they always feel safe and secure before attempting to discuss any traumatic experiences.

As well as being a humanistic counsellor, I also work as a Somatic Experiencing® practitioner and am a member of SEAUK.

I have a particular interest in the work of Dr Peter Levine as well as Stephen Porges and Deb Dana. Somatic experiencing draws on traditional wisdom of the body as well as on modern neuroscience to make sense of our human experiences and is particularly effective when dealing with traumatic experiences.

One definition of trauma is any experience that is too much, too fast, too soon, and for too long. These experiences often leave us feeling shaken and emotionally vulnerable. To cope with such situations we go into ‘survival mode’ that may ultimately stop us from feeling fully alive. Although we often sense that there is another way of relating to the world around us, we often feel stuck and unable to change on our own, hence the need to work with someone who has an understanding of the way trauma is processed in our body.

If you would like to know more please do not hesitate to contact me for an initial free chat.

Practice description

Non-judgement and kindness are at the heart of my way of working. I understand how important it is for my clients to work at their own pace, allowing them time to process and integrate each aspect of their experience before moving on or addressing more traumatic or difficult stories.

I work in a non-directive way, that is to say, I do not advise, diagnose or tell you what to do but rather aim to help you feel more grounded and develop a deeper understanding of yourself and of the feelings you might have and help you find new, more integrated and easier ways of being.

I offer both short-term and long-term open-ended counselling.
