My Face to Face work continues as normal and whilst Covid restrictions have now eased, so too have the guidelines for social distancing.

So, for the present time at least the service is running and operating as usual. I try to maintain as 'normal' environment as possible, and do appreciate and understand that some people may need to and/or wish to operate social distancing during sessions. I will endeavour to accommodate this as far as I possibly can.

Because the Walk & Talk, and Equine Assisted Therapy work are mainly held in an outdoor setting I am pleased to say that I am able to continue to offer both these therapies - For those who need or choose to work in a socially distanced way - this work very much allows us to maintain and adhere to any such needs that clients might have.

About me and my therapy practice

I am a qualified, BACP accredited, person-centred therapist; I often work with long-term with more complex issues, although short term counselling is always available, and can also be very effective for some people; a few sessions can often be enough to enable them to start noticing changes in their lives.

Face to face work

A traditional counselling setting is generally one where counsellor and client sit together in an appropriately lit, confidential space, seated a comfortable distance apart in comfortable chairs, facing one another.

Walk and Talk

Walk and Talk therapy is based on similar principles as traditional counselling, however the focus is a more holistic one, and can be more therapeutic for those who struggle with the traditional 'face to face' encounter. Being outside in the elements and close to nature brings a new dimension into the work. Please view the following pages to see more about this way of working

Equine Assisted Therapy  - Working with Horses

Working with horses is a exciting new aspect to the work we do at SEDA. Please view following pages to find out more about this way of working - https://www.sedacounselling.co.uk

Practice description

Studying at Warwick University and gaining my subsequent qualification BA (Hons) Degree in Person Centred Counselling and Psychotherapy provided me with the necessary learning platform to facilitate my own personal growth and development. This training clarified the theoretical foundations upon which I base my practice, and has enabled me to acquire the necessary skills to become an effective Person Centred practitioner. I am a fully accredited member of BACP (MBACP) and hold active registration on the BACP independent register for counsellors and psychotherapists. I hold appropriate professional indemnity insurance, and I undertake regular clinical supervision with an experienced supervisor in accordance with and often in excess of BACPs requirements. More recently I have trained to practice CBT, incorporating this modality into my work, effectively blending these two modalities. CBT offers very practical ways and valuable tools which enable clients to learn how to become far more self aware and self regulated in their day o day lives.

I am passionate about supporting people to achieve their full potential in life. Working with young people and adults is of particular interest to me, having seen the impact effective therapeutic interventions can have on the perspective of person who is struggling with life. The complexity of a clients issues often makes it very difficult for them to make sense of life, let alone verbalise their concerns and distress. A confidential, safe setting such as counselling can be such a valuable outlet for many, who may otherwise never find their voice or find a safe space where they feel heard. I am skilled in facilitating an environment which enables safe exploration of feelings and one which is crucial in enabling a young person and adults to become more effective in their processing, gaining a deeper understanding of themselves and a more developed self-awareness.

My first session

My mission is to support people to grow personally and develop emotionally through the working together with them to discover a more fulfilled way of living and being. The values that are fundamental to my practice are that all human beings have equal value, regardless of age and stage, regardless of their past and/or present lifestyles, their culture and beliefs. Every person needs meaning and purpose in their life and has an existential need to experience acceptance and love. I am committed to treat all people with respect, to be ethical, transparent and trustworthy at all times. Sessions are client led (meaning the client decides) in terms of the topics discussed and the pace of the work. I may invite a client to think about things differently, or offer an alternative perspective on the things being considered and discussed, but will always offer unconditional acceptance of the clients perspective on the material they bring.

Sessions are (unless otherwise previously agreed), on a weekly basis, one hour long and take on the same format each week.
