About me and my therapy practice
I am a warm and caring counsellor with experience in working for the NHS as well as being in a role in placement, helping women who are recovering from addictions, trauma, and unhealthy relationships. I offer a confidential and safe space to explore what might be troubling you.
I have trained as an integrative counsellor, which enables me to help people in different ways. My approach uses awareness and exploration of early life experiences to identify and learn from what might be happening in the here and now. I use empathy and non- judgement when listening to my clients. The placements I have worked in have given me a rich experience of understanding how we can make unhelpful choices in life and how to turn them around and learn from them.
I am particularly interested in helping people who may be trapped in unhealthy relationships. I am familiar with the dynamics of a narcissistic and co-dependent relationship and can offer a set of sessions which includes pattern changing theories. This can be effective in helping clients learn how to identify negative patterns, set boundaries, learn about the dynamics that keep them trapped in these patterns and then identify healthier relationships and learn how to attract them into their lives.
My experience in working with survivors of trauma has been invaluable and I notice how often trauma leads to addiction and am passionate about helping people recover from this in a non-judgemental way. I think validation of a client’s experience is vital in recovery.
Practice description
I am very familiar and comfortable with using Zoom for online sessions. I am also comfortable using the telephone. Some people prefer that.
I have recently completed my Mental Health First Aid Awareness course which entitles me to deliver training in this area.
My first session
I start sessions with a counselling agreement and an IAPT assessment form. This is the form that is used in NHS settings, it can gauge the level of depression and anxiety a client may be suffering with as well as identify risks which may need attention. This takes about 30 minutes. I can also email this ahead of the first session if a client would prefer to work on this alone.
I let the client lead the session, I may ask questions to explore situations in more detail, but I work at the client’s pace. I like to identify any goals that the client may have and how many sessions they think they may need. Each session is an hour.
