About me and my therapy practice

I am a fully qualified Psychodynamic Counsellor and Psychotherapist working with adults with a wide range of dificulties. I also have a special interest and experience in the stages of Pregnancy and Parenthood.

My counselling and therapeutic approach is psychoanalytic in nature. It places importance on early childhood experiences and interactions with society and culture on how we see ourselves and others.

A psychoanalytic approach helps bring the more unconscious aspects of yourself into conscious awareness. It helps you gain a greater understanding of yourself and facilitates changes to existing patterns of being in order for you to live a more fulfilled life.

Practice description

We can all have times in our life when we experience emotional difficulties or situations we struggle to work through.

You may be aware of the cause of your distress or are otherwise confused about why you feel the way you do.

Counselling provides a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space for you to be listened to and understood.

Sharing your thoughts and feelings with a trained counsellor can provide relief. It enables you to explore and gain insight into your thoughts, feelings and emotions. Having this deeper understanding of yourself can help you to…

  • work through your difficulties,
  • feel more in control,
  • make changes in patterns of thinking and relating to others, and
  • live a more fulfilled life.

I am able to work with a wide range of issues, including: anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, intrusive and disturbing thoughts, panic attacks, suicidal thoughts, self harm, trauma/PTSD, loss and bereavement, identity issues, body image, abuse, parenting issues, relationship issues, life changes/transitions, work anxiety and chronic illness.

My experience in pregnancy and parenthood includes: struggling to conceive, baby loss, abortion, anxiety in pregnancy, birth trauma, postnatal depression and anxiety/depression during parenthood.

Whatever your circumstance, I encourage you to get in touch so we can discuss your individual needs.

My first session

If you are interested in counselling or psychotherapy, please contact me and we will arrange for an initial consultation.

The initial consultation will take up to 60 minutes. Here we will explore what brings you to counselling and any relevant past experiences and emotional difficulties. We will also establish if I can help you or if I recommend other areas of support.

Following the initial consultation, we can establish a program of therapy to suit your needs. This usually takes the form of weekly sessions, lasting 50 minutes in length.

I offer both short-term and long-term/open-ended counselling and psychotherapy. Short-term counselling focuses on specific outcomes or goals. Long-term psychotherapy offers greater time and space to understand the more unconscious aspects of yourself and any unresolved issues connected with your present difficulties.
