About me and my therapy practice
There is no one way of living, and we will all find ourselves faced with challenges along the way. Sometimes, the help of an outside source can enable us to view things in a different light or explore in more depth, which is where counselling can be beneficial.
I am a qualified person-centred counsellor working in an integrative way to suit individual need. I am a registered member with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the British Association for Performing Arts Medicine (BAPAM).
I believe no two people are ever the same, so how can a counselling approach be? For that reason, my work is predominantly non-directive as I believe you are the expert of yourself, so the approach to therapy should be whatever feels right for you.
I have a PG (Dip) qualification in Counselling & Psychotherapy, and I am also currently working towards my Masters (MSc), exploring the use of Participatory Arts for chronic pain. Additionally, I have a level 3 qualification as a Practitioner working in the Sexual Violence Sector, and training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
As well as my person-centred training, I also have an extensive background in the arts sector, using arts based approaches in my counselling work when appropriate. I also work within the arts sector offering counselling to artists from varying professions across the sector.
I regard my role as a Counsellor to be a privilege. Meeting people from all walks of life and being a part of their journey is pretty special.
Practice description
I offer a free initial 15 minute telephone or video consultation, as I believe it is important for you to find a counsellor you feel comfortable with.
I offer a choice of video, telephone or in person sessions at a clinic in Manchester City Centre (Royal Exchange building). However, do not worry if you are not based in Greater Manchester, as video and telephone sessions can take place wherever you are in the UK.
I believe the therapeutic relationship (the relationship between you and your counsellor) to be vital, so always choose a counsellor who seems the right fit for you, and if that could possibly be me then I look forward to hearing from you.
My first session
During our first session I will carry out an initial assessment so we can be sure we are working in a way that is both comfortable and beneficial.
I do not charge an additional fee for an assessment, it is covered under the standard session fee. I also ask for some paperwork to be completed prior to our first meeting in order to save time in the first session.
