About me and my therapy practice
I am an Integrative Psychotherapist and Counsellor based in Bristol, with over 20 years of experience working in various roles with individuals and families facing significant challenges in their lives. I recognise that making the initial step to find a counsellor takes courage and it feels like a ‘leap of faith’ to trust a complete stranger. I will provide you with a safe and confidential space for you to talk about your worries and struggles. I offer you my humility and non-judgemental care, time to simply be yourself and be truly heard.
You may feel the weight of your emotions or pain of your trauma/loss like a heavy suitcase or backpack that you carry around constantly. Carrying such a heavy load is exhausting. Counselling can offer a route to lightening the load. It may be that you are seeking to find meaning, fulfilment and connection in your life, a sense of purpose or wanting to find calm and acceptance. We can work together to move towards your goals. I view each person with whom I work, as a unique individual, so the counselling relationship and the way that we work together is distinctive to each co-created partnership.
Practice description
I do not follow rigid rules about how we must work, nor offer one specific type of counselling, as I believe the counselling process works best if it is fluid and we are open to what develops. As an Integrative therapist, I use my knowledge of various theoretical models to guide my work; this includes Transactional Analysis, Existentialism, Attachment theory, Relational Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioural, Person-centred, Compassion Focused Therapy and Trauma informed Practice. Some of these concepts may already be familiar to you, others not. I do not say this to confound you, but to assure you that I am equipped to hold the therapeutic space safely.
Psychotherapy is not a quick fix and seeking to change patterns of thinking and behaviour which emerged through our childhood relating can be emotionally demanding, but also energising. I can be alongside you as your story unfolds, assisting you as you come to understand yourself more fully, exploring the challenges you are currently facing, until you are where you want to be.
The people with whom I have worked, have experienced anxiety, stigma, prolonged low mood, trauma, loss, grief, anger, family and relationship struggles, low self esteem, infertility issues, life transitions and workplace stress. In addition, I have previous experience of working with individuals not raised within their birth family.
My first session
If you would like to take your next step forward, then please contact me. I aim to respond to new requests within 24 hours during weekdays, but may take slightly longer at weekends. I provide online (via Zoom), telephone and face to face sessions and I am available between 9am-8pm Monday to Friday.
I offer a free 20 minute telephone chat for you to get a sense of whether I am the right therapist for you and whether I can offer what you need.
Home visits are offered to a small number of clients, based on circumstance/location and risk assessment.
