About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I'm Miriam. Glad to have you here :)
I believe the heart of therapy is a safe, trusting relationship. When you feel secure and accepted, it gets easier to open up and make sense of what you’re going through. That’s really what I try to offer — a space where you don’t have to pretend, where you can just be yourself and take things at your own pace.
I see most things through the lens of trauma and attachment. My goal is to help you develop a sense of safety, security, and trust, so you can begin to make sense of your experiences and move toward change.
Trauma doesn’t always show up the way we expect it to. For some, it’s feeling constantly on edge or flooded by overwhelming thoughts. Others might feel numb or disconnected — from people, from the world, or even from themselves. You might notice your sleep is off, your body feels tense or achy for no clear reason, or you go out of your way to avoid certain places or memories. Trauma can also show up in how we cope — turning to substances, self-harming, or falling into patterns that feel destructive or hard to stop. It can impact how you relate to others — maybe you find it hard to trust, or you work hard to stay invisible and avoid conflict. Underneath it all, there’s often a deep sense of shame, low self-worth, or the feeling that something’s just... off. These are all valid responses to experiences that overwhelmed your system.
These are the kinds of things I work with.
And if you’re feeling distressed but can’t point to any specific reason why, that’s valid too. You don’t need to have a clear explanation for your feelings to matter.
I am reflective, warm, flexible — and sometimes funny :) I know that therapy is not one-size-fits-all, and I'm good at tailoring my work to what feels most helpful for you. For one person, it's learning emotional regulation skills; for another it's psychoeducation; and for yet another, it's holding space for your pain. For many, it's a combination of these and more.
Practice description
My approach is integrative and trauma-focused. I’ve trained in humanistic integrative counselling, IFS (internal family systems), and DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy) and have a keen interest in sensorimotor psychotherapy, AEDP, EMDR, and group work. My work is largely shaped by trauma experts such as Bessel van der Kolk, Deb Dana, Pat Ogden, Janina Fisher, Stephen Porges, and Richard Schwartz. While I don’t always use these modalities explicitly, they are woven into the way I think and work. I will also draw upon behavioural approaches if you are after specific behavioural goals. In short, I employ techniques from all of these modalities mentioned as appropriate.
Many of my clients have been through a lot, and I know that talking about yourself isn’t always easy. Some people struggle to find words, while others may not even know where to begin. I meet you where you are, whether that means using gentle encouragement, creative strategies, or simply holding space for silence when needed.
If you’re looking for a space where you can begin to make sense of things, heal, and grow — at your own pace and in your own way —please get in touch. I'd love to hear from you.
I work primarily within the Orthodox Jewish population with young adults typically ages 18-30, although all are welcome.
My first session
First sessions with me are super flexible and will depend on what you are after. If you are comfortable, we will chat about what brings you into therapy. I will also give you the opportunity to ask me questions about my practice, how I work, and to determine if I'm the right fit for you. Beyond that, my goal is to develop positive rapport between us.
