About me and my therapy practice
I am a relationally focused integrative therapist, and I work with warmth, compassion, and integrity, to build a confidential therapeutic alliance with each individual client. Through this therapeutic relationship, clients are empowered to express their feelings and understand their experiences, in order to bring therapeutic change. Counselling offers you the opportunity to talk through issues in a supportive, confidential and safe space, where you can identify, explore and understand what doesn’t feel right within. Although this can sometimes feel challenging, it can also be inspiring and creative, exploring concerns, worries and experiences.
l am passionate about supporting people to deal with a wide variety of emotional difficulties, including low self-esteem, self-harm, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, relationship problems, loss and bereavement, trauma, bullying, anger management, stress and past experiences which affect the present.
I have worked with young people in education for over 25 years and I hold a current enhanced disclosure (DBS). I have recently completed training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and I also hold a Diploma in Child and Adolescent Counselling. I work creatively with my clients to assist them in exploring their thoughts and feelings, building confidence in communicating and empowering their sense of self.
I attend regular supervision to gain specialist mentoring in line with BACP guidelines. This enhances the quality of the service I offer, and ensures my work meets professional standards, advances my learning, stimulates creativity, and supports me to maintain resilience and fitness to practice.
A recent client stated:
"I wish I had done this years ago. It has had a huge and positive impact on my working life and I am profoundly grateful that I was able to work with someone with such incisive expertise." KT
Practice description
I work by integrating the personal therapeutic relationship with other approaches including CBT, Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, and Compassion focused therapy. I am responsive to each unique individual, adjusting my therapeutic approach, using theories and resources to best meet each person’s needs.
My aim when working with clients is to offer a confidential, safe and supportive space where together we can begin to make sense of your difficulties and help you to understand yourself better. The counselling process is determined by you. Within the therapeutic relationship you will feel heard, deeply understood and accepted, which can help you explore your feelings more openly and enable you to think about yourself in ways that you have not been able to consider before as well as develop skills for coping with emotional difficulties.
As an integrative therapist, I am responsive to each unique individual, adjusting my therapeutic approach, using theories and resources to best meet each person’s needs. I will help you identify a ‘therapeutic aim’ to work towards which will help give focus to the counselling sessions. We will work together towards achieving your aim which may include understanding where unhelpful thoughts, feelings and behaviours come from; identifying alternative ways of thinking; developing new coping strategies; and considering different perspectives.
I am an insured and registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and I abide by their Ethical Frameworks and professional standards.
I work with Adults, and Young People.
A recent client stated: ”I always felt Elaine listened deeply, she was always well prepared and carefully moved each session forward to try and meet my set goals. Elaine was able to key straight into the history of my problems, remembering names and the incidents that had made their mark on me. found her empathetic and this enabled me to share some painful memories and thoughts.” LJT
My first session
Our relationship begins with an initial free conversation where you determine if we are a 'good fit' to establish a good working alliance.
We would then arrange an initial appointment of around 50 minutes, to explore what is troubling you, and to enable me to understand your life experience and your story that has led you to reach out. Together we will consider what has been most distressing and troubling for you and we will seek to identify a ‘therapeutic aim’ to work towards which will help give focus to your path through your therapy journey.
Please contact me by email or text to express an interest in an initial conversation. Following your initial free phone call, we can then discuss together the best way forward.
