About me and my therapy practice

Hi-My name is Dan. I am a registered BACP Councillor with 10 years practice experience. It's very important to me that everyone has the right to access good quality,  professional support for their emotional health.  That's why, in order to minimise costs, I work exclusively online or over the phone.

My approach is to be led by you in terms of what you want to discuss, and how you want to discuss it. I have been trained in a large variety of methodologies, but be advised that I am NOT in the business of telling you what to do. I believe profoundly that you have the capacity within yourself for change and healing and it’s my job to simply facilitate that process.

I know how it feels to come into Counselling. As someone who has experienced Anxiety and Depression in the wake of adult-onset disability, I understand how difficult it can be to both accept that help is needed, and then have the courage to take the next step and start discussing thoughts and feelings relating to private aspects of your life; I’m here for you.

I live and work in Cornwall but practicing online, I see clients from all over the world, bringing with them a huge range of issues they want to discuss. The common thread is that they all invariably find once they "speak their truths", getting thoughts out of the their head and into a conversation with a warm and empathic counterpart (Me!), they begin to define the problem differently and recognise their capacity for change. This is, for me, the essence of therapy.

Practice description

I work exclusively online or over the phone in order to minimise my costs and keep my rates as low as possible.  Owing to other work commitments, I offer sessions all day Monday and Friday. (later on Monday evenings). Sessions are 50 minutes in duration.

Sessions are generally £35 but I can offer concessions to trainees and others-Please feel free to get in touch to discuss rates.

Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling (BACP Accredited Level 5)

Level 1 and 2 Person Centred Therapy (CPCAB)

Transactional Analysis 101, TQUK Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Children and Young People’s Mental Health, Motivational Interviewing (Level 2), HEE (NHS) Understanding Psychosis and Bipolar (Level 2), DBT Essential Skills (Level 2)

Registered as a Counsellor with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy.

You can find me on the BACP Register of Counsellors.

I have worked in a variety of settings, including in General Adult Practice, with 11-18 year olds in Secondary School and Further Education environments, and with Adults in Higher Education.

Currently I see Private Clients and work for an NHS service providing support to people in the community with identified mental/emotional health needs not being met by the standard CBT provision.

My first session

I firmly believe that the success or failure of Counselling lies largely in the relationship formed between the Practitioner and Client.  You can be the best Therapist in the world on paper; if for whatever reason a client can't "connect" with their Counsellor in their time together, qualifications are irrelevant.

In order to help you ascertain whether or not you want to continue working with me, I offer all new clients a free 30 minute session so you can make an appraisal of how I work and discuss your requirements, with absolutely no obligation.

“I had quite a few sessions with Dan to try and help with my grief struggles after losing my best friend. He has been fantastic! He has really helped me be a bit more at peace with my process and has offered a valued professional and compassionate view of things”

“Dan really helped me get my thoughts in order after a difficult spell in my personal and professional life…having the time and space to reflect on my feelings in his comfortable presence gave me the chance to get some fresh perspectives on what felt like impossible problems”

“I found Dan to be extremely professional and easy to talk to. He is very knowledgeable about different methods and helps you find what works best for you, rather than one way of thinking. I would absolutely recommend him as a Counsellor for anyone looking for some support”

“I was intimidated by Counselling having never had it before, but Dan made the experience very easy and was very reassuring. I was concerned that I was going to be asked lots of difficult questions about my childhood and stuff but (Dan) made it very clear that this was my time and space and helped me to become aware of the issues that were important to me. It was an empowering experience and I recommend it and Dan”

“Dan, I would have never taken the steps I needed if it weren’t for you guidance, Thank You so very much”.
