About me and my therapy practice
Life is an unknown factor which can involve upsetting, stressful, or traumatic events that can negatively impact us day to day. You may have anxiety and depression and struggle with issues of low self-esteem and suicidal thoughts. Or you may have intrusive thoughts and problems controlling your anger and impulsiveness. Your thoughts and feelings may be impacting the relationships around you, or maybe your relationship is impacting you. Maybe you are struggling with neurodivergence in a neurotypical world. Whatever your circumstances, I can help you to understand and interpret your thoughts and feelings in a safe and non-judgmental space, whether you are facing new troubles or long term struggles. I can help you explore the root cause of your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, and develop a more thorough understanding of who you are as a person. I can also guide you through coping techniques to help reduce the intensity and frequency of negative thoughts and physical sensations often linked with depression, anxiety, and post traumatic stress (panic attacks, etc.).
I have a BSc in Psychology and Sociology, with a British Psychological Society membership. I also hold a BACP accredited MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy, with training in CBT frameworks and brief solution focused therapy also.
I have almost 9 years of experience in supporting individuals with a wide range of mental health issues, including working in the NHS and National Probation Service alongside local and national charities. As well as private practice I currently provide counselling within several non-profit organisations.
My specialisms include anxiety, depression, neurodivergence (including ADHD and ASD), low self esteem/confidence, bereavement, relationship issues, and coping with trauma. I also have particular experience in working with adolescents and under 30s. I consistently undertake training opportunities so I am up to date in theory and techniques to offer you the best support
Practice description
Struggling with thoughts and emotions, or seeking therapy, can often be seen as a sign of weakness. I believe it is the biggest sign of strength. It can be a constant battle within ourselves to just survive and function on a day to day basis, troubled by negative thoughts and feelings or upsetting memories. This is not only extremely mentally draining but also physically exhausting - it is ok to not be ok. I offer a safe, compassionate, and non-judgemental space where you can get some pressure off your chest and free that weight off your shoulders.
I also offer text based counselling for those anxious about telephone or video call sessions which is £35 for a 50 minute session. All sessions are payment in advance.
Body positive, fat positive, kink positive, LGBTQI+ ally, neurodiversity trained, trauma informed
My first session
Before sessions I offer a free intro call (up to 20 minutes). This is a really informal chat to get a better picture of things that you want to address or work on in sessions, as well as making sure you feel comfortable talking with me so that you get the most out of our work together.
Our first session will be discussing whatever you feel comfortable with, whether that is diving straight into the main struggles you are facing, or providing a bit more of background information first. Each session is personal to you, and while I may ask questions and invite you to explore or challenge yourself, I will never “dig” for answers. I also do not work with specific timelines. For example, you may prefer to work chronologically, starting with perhaps your earliest memories or key events at younger ages. You may also prefer to start more recently, things that have happened within the past few weeks or months that have led you to the counselling room. Or, it may be a combination of the two, weaving key events in your past with present thoughts, feelings, and experiences. You are the main driver of our sessions, and your comfort or process is the most important thing
