About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I'm Katie. I am a registered member of the BACP, offering one-to-one psychotherapy and counselling services to adults aged 18 years and over. Face-to-face appointments take place in a private garden office and video appointments are offered via the online platform Skype.
I understand that making the decision to begin therapy can feel daunting. Once you start your search for a therapist, it can feel challenging to find the right person for you. I hope this information helps you to learn about my approach and what you can expect from therapy.
People seek therapy for different reasons. You might be here because you have faced a significant event. Perhaps you are suffering with anxiety, stress, low self-esteem or depression, or you are feeling sad and disconnected from life. You might not even know exactly what it is that is troubling you, but something just doesn't feel right.
The main modality I work in is Transactional Analysis, which explores an individual’s personality and how it has been shaped by experiences, decisions and beliefs, particularly those experiences from childhood. I will explore the links between your past and your present to understand how you relate to yourself and to others. This insight can help you to identify what isn’t working for you and the changes you wish to make to your life.
I provide a nurturing, open and respectful space, where you can talk about your difficulties without judgment. I will encourage you to take an active role in therapy, so I won't tell you what to do and I can't simply fix your problems for you. My role will be to facilitate and support you to make sense of your experiences, using sensitive questioning and honest input to help you to gain in-depth insight into your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. This process can help you to uncover your own strengths and develop inner and outer resources to deal with the ups and downs of life.
Practice description
My practice is based in a garden office, which is separate from my home with private access. It is located half a mile from Bramhall village centre, close to the Manchester Eastern Link Airport Road (SK7). It is also within easy reach of Woodford, Hazel Grove, Cheadle Hulme and Handforth. It is easily reached by bus services, train and car. Free street parking is available nearby.
Video appointments are offered via the online platform Skype.
My first session
I offer a free 20-minute consultation over the phone or online, via Skype or Zoom. This informal chat gives us the opportunity to meet one another and for you to tell me about what has brought you to therapy. There is no obligation to continue beyond this consultation.
If you like the sound of my approach, please get in touch. I am not always able to answer the phone, so please leave me a message. I aim to get back to all enquiries within 48 hours. Feel free to text, WhatsApp or email me - whatever works best for you.
