About me and my therapy practice
My qualifications include a BSc in Counselling Psychology and an MSc in Psychological Therapies, with additional training in grief, trauma and TRiM training for veterans.
Due to the fact that I work for a university, my private practice is something I do remotely, and part-time. This is why I am happy to be able to offer more affordable rates to clients.
My natural approach to therapy is person-centred, in that I value a therapeutic relationship that is built on trust and authenticity. My aim is to create a safe and supportive space that allows a client to be themselves and not feel a need to hold back while I listen with empathy, understanding and without judgement.
I am also trained and experienced in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Psychodynamic Therapy, which allows me to switch or integrate models and tailor therapy according to a clients needs.
Practice description
I completely understand how difficult it can be to open up to someone and I consider it a privilege to be trusted with peoples life stories and experiences.
Patience is key and I work at the clients pace and tailor sessions according to their needs and the issues they bring to therapy. I offer supportive listening as well as encourage self-reflection, asking questions and delving deeper so a client can learn more about themselves and grow and develop from the experience of therapy.
My first session
Before going straight into the deep end, a first session needs to involve going over some basic principles such as health and safety, confidentiality, time and boundaries. It is important for me to ensure that you feel as comfortable as possible so we can begin to build a strong and trusting therapeutic relationship.
Additionally, I like to ease into things by asking a client to reiterate why they have sought therapy and to discuss their hopes and expectations of our work together. Once we have covered those fundamentals, we can decide how you would like to use the rest of the session.
