About me and my therapy practice
Thank you for looking at my profile and I hope it will help you decide whether I might be the right counsellor for you.
At times in our lives, we can all experience difficulties and challenges. Our normal coping strategies don’t seem to be working and we feel pulled out of shape. Bottling things up may leave us feeling feel drained and exhausted, but sometimes talking to those closest to us is difficult. As a counsellor, I will offer you a confidential, safe and secure space to freely express and explore your thoughts and feelings. I will listen to you in an accepting and non-judgemental way and will not tell you what to do.
My goal is always to focus on you, getting to understand you as an unique individual. I will look to provide a safe space where you can build trust and I will listen carefully, as I seek to understand how things are feeling for you .
Creative ways of working may be useful for some, especially when finding words feels hard. I can work in this way if you would find that helpful.
People who see a counsellor for the first time may feel a bit wary of all the ‘therapy stuff’ or are unsure of how it all works. It might seem daunting and confusing as there are so many different theories and so much choice. Perhaps you just want someone to listen, to understand how life is for you right now and to work with you towards a positive outcome.
I believe that however you might be feeling as you read this, you do have the capacity to explore the feelings, thoughts, needs, dilemmas and challenges that you may be experiencing. I hope that counselling with me will offer you the opportunity to do just that.
Practice description
As well as my work as a counsellor, I have over twenty years experience working both as a nurse and then with the wellbeing team in a children's hospice. I have a special interest in grief and loss and also living with life changing illness and disability.
My first session
I invite anyone interested in starting counselling to talk with me, by telephone, for a cost free half hour session. During this time you can see if you feel comfortable with me and also begin to explore your counselling needs if you feel comfortable to do that. I will then leave it for to you to decide whether you would like to begin having counselling sessions and these are available either face to face or via Zoom.
You can contact me via email on info@alexsouthcounselling.co.uk.
