About me and my therapy practice
Thank you for taking the time to consider my practice. i am based in East lancashire covering areas in Pendle, Burnley, Accrington and Clitheroe and offer short and long-term therapy for both individual adults and couples.I am a qualified integrative counsellor, primarily from a person centre-centred perspective.
Many years of practice experience enables me to integrate different theoretical ideas and interventions but also to bring a common sense approach and warmth. I approach the work with clients collaboratively so that interventions are most meaningful and helpful to you. This means working with whatever you choose to bring to the session and in helping to explore your perspective by using ideas from other therapeutic philosophies.
My approach is to integrate a Humanistic Person Centred Relational approach including, Behavioural, Brief therapy: Emotionally focused therapy, Solution focused and Systemic.
Therapy is about feeling seen and heard. I will offer you a safe place to process your emotions without being judged. I will try to understand your feelings and story as much as possible and work with you to find happiness and change.
Practice description
My role as a therapist is to help people to explore their problems and work through them on a supportive way. The aim is always to help a client to gain new understandings and help them move forward.
I have worked with many people who have experienced addiction, bereavement, anxiety and depression. low self esteem, stress and relationship issues. I also work with couples who are struggling with their relationship and would like to talk about ongoing issues and make positive changes.
I have 15 years experience in working with drug and alcohol addictions and welcome people interested in managing their addictive behaviours and exploring complex trauma i am a qualified trauma focused therapist during therapy we will explore what is underpinning your addiction and i will offer a three phased trauma focused approach.
Counselling is offered on an open-ended basis or for an agreed time period, depending on what seems most advisable. for planned short - term counselling we can focus on a particular problem, event or stage in life. In longer term therapy we can work together more deeply, exploring ongoing patterns of behaving and the ways you relate to yourself and others.
Couples Therapy
In working with couples my approach is to focus on assisting you to find what is happening within your relationship. We can explore what is working well within the relationship, sometimes couples in conflict can lose sight of the positive aspects of the relationship when becoming problem focused over time.
Issues i have worked with include: unresolved conflict; breakdown in communication; affairs loss separation and divorce; parenting styles; depression; loss of self esteem and confidence.
My first session
Before the first session i would arrange a 20 -minute phone call or video link (free of charge) to discuss whether i might be the right kind of therapist for you. Then we would book in a 60-minute initial consultation, for me to find out more about what is going on for you, for you to get a flavour of how i work and talk to you about how we might work together to help with your presenting issues.
During the first session i will go through my therapeutic contract outlining the rights and responsibilities for both client and therapist with a main focus on confidentiality. The counselling contract will be sent to you in advance.
