About me and my therapy practice
I never underestimate how daunting the idea of counselling can be. It’s a very personal experience and it is important to get the right counsellor for you. My free initial telephone consultation gives us an opportunity to talk through the issues you're facing and what changes you're hoping to make.
You may be considering counselling for all sorts of reasons – a significant event, a relationship breakdown or to break unhealthy patterns of behaviour. Your reasons for beginning counselling may not even feel clear at the moment– for many people experiencing a general sense of unhappiness, anxiety or dissatisfaction, counselling is a way to understand the issues they’re facing and where change may be possible.
Whatever the reason, I offer a safe, confidential space for us to explore issues and difficulties together, helping you make sense of your problems and move forward in a positive way that’s right for you.
I am an experienced counsellor and relationship therapist and Registered member of the BACP based in Gerrards Cross and the Chilterns. In addition to my private practice, I have many years of experience working as a RELATE counsellor for couples and individuals, as well as delivering specialist therapy for anxiety and depression for NHS clients.
Practice description
I believe therapy is as individual as you are, and whether you come as an individual or couple, I tailor our sessions to explore your feelings and difficulties to help gain insight and to make sense of what you are feeling.
Throughout my years of experience as a specialist relationship counsellor, I have worked with couples facing a huge variety of difficulties. This may be resolving an external problem which has shaken the foundations of their relationship – an affair or painful event, a general sense of drifting apart, loss of sexual interest or simply feeling like they have ‘forgotten’ how to be with one another. Working together, I will help you to gain insight into the part you are each playing in your relationship dynamic, to gain a better understanding for each other, and so create an opportunity for positive change.
I am qualified in Couple Behavioural Therapy for Depression and I have worked with a large number of NHS referred clients for depression and anxiety, working together to help you better understand what you are experiencing and ways to push back on some of the more difficult feelings.
My first session
During a initial phone call we will discuss what has brought you to counselling and what changes you are hoping to make. There’s no obligation – you might need more time to consider whether it’s right for you, that’s fine.Ongoing sessions are 50 minutes and are held either weekly or fortnightly.
There is no fixed number of sessions – some clients only need a few counselling sessions to achieve their goals. However, some issues can be more complex and may take several months to resolve. All decisions are made jointly and will be based on your specific needs and circumstances.
