About me and my therapy practice
I am a counsellor and a qualified arts therapist, registered with the HCPC, with over 20 years’ experience of providing therapeutic support to people of all backgrounds and ages. I am also qualified to clinically supervise other counsellors and therapists.
My training as a counsellor and an arts therapist mean that I am also able to offer a range of creative approaches in addition to counselling, as determined by you, to help you explore your feelings and concerns and to gain insights and self-awareness.
There might be a specific issue, or an experience like a bereavement or separation, that concerns you. Or it could be that you are experiencing multiple challenges from different areas of life, or feeling generally anxious, stuck or confused.
Using a range of recognised counselling and therapeutic approaches as you feel best suits your needs, our work together can be short term to focus on specific issues or long term to explore your concerns in more depth, enabling you to take stock of the present and process your feelings, and gain support in identifying your choices for moving forward.
I provide a non-judgemental and confidential space for you. The aim is for you to choose what you require in the moment and what best suits your needs and personality.
The relationship with your therapist is important as is choosing the right one, so please feel free to contact me for a free 20-minute consultation to discuss how we might work together.
Practice description
Talking about facing difficult emotions or thoughts can be challenging, but it can also be a release and bring relief. I will provide a consistent and empathic safe space to support you. When we start working together, my approach initially will be to address any questions you have about therapy and how it works. I will listen to what you are feeling and be clear about the options I can offer moving forward.
Whether you choose to bring a particular issue to therapy or turn your attention to something that you feel in the moment, or if you would prefer to be guided, these choices are open to you. You will be offered fresh perspectives, and the process of therapy may involve us exploring some beliefs that are no longer helpful to you. By engaging in therapy, the aim is for you to become more in touch with your authentic feelings, to feel more integrated and have a fuller understanding of yourself and your choices towards changes you want to make.
I am trained in counselling and arts therapy, which is a form of psychotherapy. I am informed by a range of models including humanistic, psychodynamic, attachment, developmental, existential, and somatic approaches to bring awareness to what is happening in the body. My training means I can draw on a wide range of recognised techniques to support you with insight and the capacity to express and become more in touch with your emotions, thoughts, to feel more integrated towards having a fuller and more meaningful life.
Please contact me if you would like to discuss how we can work together.
