About me and my therapy practice

Originally trained as a Humanistic Integrative Counsellor, I take a relational approach to therapy. My special interests lie in relationships, attachment, and trauma, in particular complex trauma, resulting in Dissociation and Dissociative Disorders, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

I strongly believe that our primary relationships and early experiences shape our present and can negatively impact on our lives, affecting how we relate to others, how we deal with endings and loss, how we cope with difficulties and challenges in our lives, even if we do not realise it. We may experience overwhelming feelings. We may feel we are not good enough, that we do not fit in, that there is something wrong with us. We might even be ashamed of who we are as a person. Relational dynamics may emerge that tend to result in us feelings preoccupied, anxious or depressed, lonely and isolated. We may be left with a sense of being stuck or unable to cope with situations. Feelings such as those often occur and persist because of past deep-rooted experiences.

I am genuinely passionate about providing my clients with a secure base for exploration of feeling and thoughts and a reparative experience. A safe space where you can gain a greater understanding of your experiences, relational and attachment difficulties .

I take a collaborative approach to therapy as the relationship between therapist and client is at the core of the therapeutic process. Therapy lies to great extent on forming a strong therapeutic alliance, building a safe and healthy relationship, where a deep level of trust is established. The foundation of this relationship are exploration, empathy, compassion, communication, collaboration and connection.

My first session

The first session is very much about building a shared understanding and a foundation for our work together. I will find out what is bringing you to therapy and what you are hoping to get out of it. I will also take a throughout life history as I am interested in the whole person. Please note that this can take up to few sessions.

Once the assessment is completed, we will decide if we are both comfortable to proceed. If we are, we will move to the main part of our work. We will then meet weekly and our sessions will last 50 minutes. Regularity and continuity are especially important to good therapy.

You may set up your first appointment by sending me an email with a brief description of your situation together with any other relevant information or questions. We can set up an initial free 20 minute video call for us to introduce ourselves, discuss how therapy can help you and see if we are a good match to work together.
