About me and my therapy practice

I work by creating a therapeutic relationship with you. Within this relationship, we address whatever difficulties you are experiencing. I am skilled at providing a reassuring presence within which you can feel safe, heard and understood.

I am curious about people and their relationships and have been told throughout my life that I have a warm, calming and non-judgmental presence which invites confidence and intimacy from others.

I believe that many of the difficulties we encounter in life are related to problems in our interpersonal relationships, whether at home, in the family, with a partner, or at work. Sometimes, it's our relationship with ourselves which becomes difficult. My training in the relational approach to counselling and psychotherapy means that I am well placed to support my clients to explore these issues.

My work is integrative, drawing mainly from person centred therapy, but I also use elements of CBT and Transactional Analysis. I have supported people with a variety of different issues, including anxiety, depression, bereavement and loss, relationship problems, issues around neurodiversity, alcohol and substance abuse, difficulties with work, self esteem, identity, the search for meaning.

I am a qualified, experienced psychotherapist/counsellor. I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling & Psychotherapy from Leeds Beckett University. I also have a BA Honours degree in Philosophy. My experience includes work for Leeds Mind, Leeds City College, Barca and Community Links.

Outside of my private practice I work as a trauma focused counsellor in an NHS setting, working with adults who have had adverse childhood experiences.

As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I abide by the BACP Ethical Framework and receive monthly clinical supervision.

My first session

During our first session I will invite you to tell me something about your reasons for seeking help. It will also be an opportunity for you to ask me about any aspect of my practice, my experience, and my work.I offer a free initial online or telephone session of up to 30 minutes to help you to decide if you feel my practice is a good fit for the issues you want to address. Then, if you would like to go ahead, we will agree an assessment and a plan from there.
