About me and my therapy practice
What kind of therapist am I?
Now in my mid-50s, I became a counsellor at 40-something. I bring all of my rich and varied life’s experience into my work with clients.
After a total of four and a half years of training, I qualified at Bath Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I now work exclusively in private practice, with a diverse group of people, and a wide range of issues. Having lived experience of both, I have a particular interest in trauma and addiction.
I’m primarily a person-centred counsellor, integrating Buddhist, Jungian and psychodynamic understanding into my approach to helping others. I love deep, life-changing work; exploring what it is to be human, and, in particular, how it is to be you. I aim to enter as authentically as I can into relationship with my clients. In my experience, the understanding and change you seek can be found in such a therapeutic relationship.
Please feel free to ask whether I think I can be of help to you.
Qualifications:
• Advanced Diploma in Humanistic and Integrative Counselling (Level 6, BCPC)
• Diploma in Relational Mindfulness CPD (Karuna Institute)
• EFT Levels 1 & 2
• Certificate in Trauma Therapy (Level 6, The Grove)
• Death Doula Training (Foundation Certificate, Living Well Dying Well)
I'm happy to work with you in-person, or remotely (by Zoom or telephone).
I'm a member of BACP, and abide by their Ethical Framework.
I’m fully insured.
Practice description
Why come to see a counsellor?
We all experience difficulties at one time or another. It could be that our relationships aren’t all we'd like them to be. Or perhaps we feel anxious, depressed, lonely, or we’re grieving a loss. Perhaps we behave in ways that we'd rather not, or that we don't understand. Or maybe life has lost its meaning, we've lost our sense of direction, feel stuck, or just don't know who we are any more.
Counselling offers a safe, confidential space in which to explore such issues in relationship with someone who is skilled, non-judgemental, and really there for you. A space in which to come to terms with things, and allow them to change for the better.
Counselling generally works best on a weekly basis. Short term therapy for specific issues may last for a few months, while deeper work may continue for several years.
My first session
I offer a free 50-minute, initial session, by Zoom or telephone. (If you’d like to have the initial session in-person, the cost is £35.) This gives you plenty of time to discuss what’s going on for you, and what help it is that you’re looking for. If you decide that you’d like to go on and see me for therapy, I then charge £55 for remote sessions, and £60 for in-person.
I have limited space for several low-cost sessions a week. Please feel free to ask about this, if my normal fee is more than you can afford.
