About me and my therapy practice
Hi, my name is Emma and welcome to my page. Life can bring many challenges, which can often leave us feeling stuck, overwhelmed, low or anxious. And sometimes we may feel low but be unsure why. Many people seek counselling for a variety of reasons, such as following a bereavement or major life-change, to help them cope with the stresses of everyday life or perhaps wishing to get to know and understand themselves better. It can be difficult to talk to friends or loved ones when we are feeling overwhelmed. Whatever your needs may be, I am here to offer you my support.
Person-Centred counselling is a talking therapy that gives you the space to unravel what is going on for you in a confidential, secure and non-judgemental environment. I passionately believe in the benefits of talking therapy and the improvements it can bring to people’s lives, relationships and to their wellbeing. Exploring our experiences and feelings more fully can lead to greater self-awareness and insight, which in turn can help us to feel and to cope better, and to be more in control of our lives and the path we are taking.
I offer 1to1 counselling for adults aged 18+, for a wide range of issues including bereavement and loss, stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, women’s issues and living with serious/chronic illness. I am based in Urmston, Greater Manchester, and currently offering in-person therapy.
Practice description
I enjoy helping others and feel it is a privilege to be alongside clients on their counselling journey. As an experienced volunteer counsellor with the Macmillan Wellbeing Centre, based at Trafford General Hospital, I have developed specialisms in supporting those dealing with bereavement and loss, as well as working alongside clients who have received a cancer diagnosis, those living with a serious or chronic illness, or those caring for loved ones.
As well as being warm and friendly, personal qualities I bring are care, compassion, empathy and a non-judgemental ear. I aim to ensure that you feel accepted, supported and listened to. We are all unique and as such, no issue feels the same for everyone. I view and treat each client as an individual, tailoring therapy to your needs and empowering you to grow in ways that matter to you. In our sessions I will be led by you and go at your pace, always ensuring that you feel safe and comfortable, as we move forward together. I work mostly as a Person-Centred therapist but may bring in other elements, such as mindfulness or Cognitive Behavioural techniques - only if this feels relevant and helpful for you.
My first session
I understand it can be hard to take the first step, but if you feel ready, I offer a free 20-minute initial consultation by phone, where you can see if you would like us to work together. I can answer any questions you may have, and we can talk through your needs, hopes and what to expect. Finding the right therapist is really important and there is no obligation to commit to sessions. Please feel free to contact me now - I am ready to help and looking forward to meeting you.
