About me and my therapy practice
Hello My name is Maria. I am professionally trained and qualified counsellor. I am a humanist counsellor. My integrative counselling skills allow me to offer counselling to Adults, young people and children. I also do group work.
I volunteer as a teaches assistant for counselling at Petroc.
I became a therapist to help people in some way, whether to offer support through the process of improving mental health, addressing relationship difficulties, family difficulties, or adjusting to challenging life changes.
I have many years experience working and counselling many clients who have lost direction and focus in their everyday lives. Struggling with anxiety, and depression.
I have experience in several different counselling theories, Psychodynamic, Humanistic, CBT.
I offer face to face. Online or telephone therapy. I am fully vaccinated.
I use my counselling skills and the BACP ethical framework to listen, and support. I offer empathy, trust and confidentiality. I also encourage, inspire and offer hope to my clients to help them gain focus and to help them make progress and maintain stability and move forward with their everyday lives.
I provide an open, safe, non judgemental counselling therapy to explore the issues, thoughts, feeling and behaviours that clients need help and support within their counselling session/s.
Sometimes it can be difficult to open - up and speak about issues close to our hearts, depression, grief, trauma, relationships, to anyone that is close to us. I will ensure a safe and confidential space to do this, to talk about your problems, issues, and emotional feeling.
Practice description
Do you often feel weighed down by feelings of anxiety? or, if you find it difficult to make friends and experience loneliness regularly as a result, come and talk to me. Together, we will work on strategies that allow you to address the root causes of your difficulties and build meaningful social connections.
Do you feel that looking in on your life you feel you should be happy, but something doesn't feel right, you're not happy. Please again come and talk to me and together we can look at at the blind spots, help find the bits missing, things that possibly have been missed. Or change the way that perhaps you see things.
This means I can integrate multiple therapeutic approaches, or perhaps use specific techniques borrowed from different models.
I believe in bringing myself to the therapy room and being connected with my clients. Walking alongside them in the therapy room. I feel one of the most important factors in the therapy is the therapeutic relationship.
I like to arm my clients with skills and tools to help them after the sessions have finished. For in-between sessions and for when therapy has finished.
I am committed to my clients. I have a skill level that involves the preparation, commitment, and willingness to be a great therapist for them. I am there to work towards and help attain your goals.
I am very passionate about therapy and feel talking is medicine. My delivery includes some traits usually connected to narrative, such as curiosity and respect. I have made it an important part of my work to practice self - care and pass this through to my clients.
My first session
I would usually start with a phone assessment. An introduction, where we can have a quick chat and you can let me me know a little bit about you.
The first session starts with a warm welcome and a counselling agreement. Where we discuss sessions, records, confidentiality, notes. Good practice considers the application of my commitment to my clients and ethics to my practice. Making sure my clients know them are my primary concern when i am working with them.
The first sessions vary. I am very person-centred and want you to feel as comfortable, and talk as freely as you would like.
