About me and my therapy practice
I am an integrative counsellor, psychotherapist, mindfulness-based therapist and EMDR therapist. I am warm, open, approachable and nonjudgmental. I am here to support and encourage you to explore whatever you are struggling with.
I recognise that we are each unique, diverse and complex individuals, so what helps one person won’t necessarily help another. An integrative approach enables me to draw on a range of theories, skills and techniques and adapt them to suit your individual needs, preferences and circumstances.
You may feel stuck or overwhelmed, distracted or disconnected, or that you lack purpose or meaning in life. You may be experiencing difficulties in your friendships or relationships. You may not really know what the problem is but feel you could do with some support. Things don't have to be really bad in order to seek help. Even mild symptoms can seriously impair your enjoyment of life and wellbeing.
I can help you understand yourself better and see things more clearly. I can help you reconnect with your own personal strengths, work out what's important to you, and start making the changes you want to make. I can help you work through difficult thoughts and feelings, and find ways to manage them so they have less impact on your life and wellbeing.
We can often be quite unkind to ourselves - judging, blaming or criticising ourselves for things that have happened, or for the way we think and feel. I can help you find ways to ease your inner critic, so that you feel better about yourself and your worth as a human being. I can help you challenge self-limiting beliefs and behaviours. I can help you develop courage, resilience and acceptance, and encourage you to understand and support yourself and your difficulties with compassion. I will encourage you to view yourself as “stuck not broken” and that given the right support, attitude, strategies and tools, you can get “unstuck” and move forwards to live a happier, meaningful, rewarding and fulfilling life.
Practice description
My aim is to help you understand yourself better, make sense of the difficulties you face, and increase your sense of confidence and wellbeing. I provide a space for you to explore whatever is on your mind without being judged. I can help you work through difficult thoughts and feelings, and find a different way of relating to them so that you feel less stuck or overwhelmed by them. We can look at strategies for coping and managing difficult thoughts and feelings, so that you can focus on the things that are important to you. I can help you make choices to start acting in ways that move you towards rather than away from the person you want to be. I can help you make the changes you would like to make, whilst also accepting the things you’re unable to change or control. In this way, we’re seeking to balance both acceptance and change. I take a collaborative approach, where we work together to help you find clarity and understanding, and help you make sense of what you are feeling and why.
I am an integrative counsellor, psychotherapist, mindfulness-based therapist and EMDR therapist. I'm experienced in a range of therapeutic approaches including:
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
- EMDR Therapy (EMDR Europe)
- Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)
- Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)
- Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
- Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is best known for treating PTSD and complex trauma but it is also helpful for a range of other issues, including anxiety, panic, phobias, depression, self-esteem, bullying, humiliation, childhood trauma, social exclusion, family separation, sudden loss of a loved one, relationship issues, family issues, an accident, violent crime, sexual or emotional abuse, obsessions, compulsions, self-harm, eating disorders and addictions.
Please note I work with adults only and do not offer couples therapy.
My first session
I offer a free initial chat by phone that lasts about 20 minutes. It’s an opportunity for you to tell me a bit more about what's going on for you and get a sense of whether I'm able to help you. It will help you get a sense of me and how I work and whether you feel comfortable with me. I am open and friendly and will do my best to help you feel at ease. If you'd like to know more about my practice, book an appointment or arrange to have a chat, please just get in touch.
If you're interested in working with me but aren't sure about working online, please let me know and we can chat about it. In my experience, clients often find working online as effective if not more effective than face-to-face. This is often because they're in the comfort of their own home, avoid unnecessary travel time, can attend sessions with a cup of tea or coffee, or can make notes more easily during sessions if they wish.
Standard sessions are £60-70 for 60mins
