About me and my therapy practice
I am a BACP registered Counsellor and EMDR therapist offering face to face or online therapy to Adults & Youth.
I can help my clients with a range of difficulties. I am experienced in working with Trauma, Domestic Abuse, Anxiety, Stress, Avoidance, Depression, and Relationship issues .
Work Experience:
From my passion of helping others, I worked for the Castle Point Citizens Advice Bureau helping service users with Homelessness, Housing, Divorce & Family Disputes in my role as a Case Worker
This work then led me into training to become a Counsellor under Victoria Training and Counselling, Southend-on-sea.
My training and placements led me to counsel for:
-UK’s leading Mental Health Charity: Mind
-Domestic Abuse Charity: Women’s Aid
-Sweyne Park School in Rayleigh, Essex counselling Pupils and Parents.
I have an enhanced DBS and I am registered on the update service
Practice description
In my Private Practice I offer Online or Face to Face Weekly Therapy on a Short or Long term Basis.
An example: A young soldier is sent off to war, he sees a petrol bomb go off causing terrible devastation. He finds a place to hide as more bombs go off in terror. The soldier returns home, a few years later he passes his driving test and fills his car with petrol for the 1st time…what might happen when he smells the petrol. He suddenly re-experiences the exact same set of feelings/ bodily sensations and thoughts he had as a soldier & runs to hide.
PTSD & Anxiety symptoms's occur from part of the brain that is not solely based on cognition. Anyone who’s experienced Anxiety/ PTSD will likely know, it is felt in the body: i.e. having a Panic, Racing Heart, Sweating. Depending on our experience we look to:
Fight; Show Anger
Freeze; Numbness; Do Nothing
Flight; Run away: Escape
Fawn; People Please
Therefore therapy needs to cater to work with our Fight/Flight/Freeze bodily issues which link to Traumatic/ Fearful/ Painful memories.
I have trained in NLP, EFT with EMDR 9 Gamut and Elements of Hypnosis which are all specialist techniques that cater to treat Trauma/ PTSD, Anxieties and associated Depression. These therapies get results.
I am experienced in working with Adults, Teens and Children aged from 10+ with a range of issues.
My first session
Your first appointment gives you the opportunity to see how I work and decide if you would like to work with me. Counselling is all about you the client and my role is to listen and work with you in how you feel comfortable.
My clients say that I'm easy to talk to, warm and friendly. I can help you to explore your issues in order to help you gain awareness, insight, understanding, form new goals and/ or potentially gain acceptance of a situation you are struggling with.
Speaking to family/friends about a problem doesn’t always feel appropriate, or you might not allow yourself to feel equal to others. You might need to talk to someone outside of your personal and work life. I offer a safe, non judgemental and impartial space where you can talk openly about anything.
Counselling with me can be a way of investing in your future because part of how I work looks to provide you with helpful coping strategies you can use for life long after you have finished therapy.
I also offer 2/3 Hour Single Session Therapy For PTSD. This type of therapy is if you have experienced a Traumatic Event and you have developed PTSD. Whether the event was 30 Years ago or last week, if this issue is still affecting you, Single Session Trauma Therapy can help. I use a combination of Trauma Techniques which result in you being emotionally detached from chosen the event.Talking therapy alone is unlikely to stop PTSD, Anxiety or associated symptoms such as avoidance of a place, hyper-vigilance and/ or obsessional thinking.
Please contact me to arrange a Free 20 minute telephone call to to ask any questions you need to and discuss arranging an appointment.
