Practice description

During this last year, the need to move a lot of the things we do to an online service has grown. As with many people the move to more online based counselling gave me something to think about. For me I have seen firsthand with my clients how online has been effective in helping and has accessed some people who otherwise wouldn’t have gone for face to face counselling.

Feedback I received included the convenience of not having to travel, this also had an impact on the time they had to allocate for the appointment. Some experienced less anxiety as they were at home or somewhere they felt safe to open up. This has worked equally as well with couples, who have been on the same video call or in separate locations. This has led me to promote the online service more and show they can be more cost effective as well. If you have any questions I am happy to discuss this with you.

If we think of relationship counselling, do we think of a couple having difficulties in their relationship?  Although it can be, it may not always be the case. We have many more relationships, parent and child, siblings, career, friends and work colleagues. These all have an impact on our every day lives.

I work with any type of relationship and sexual issue in a non-judgmental, unbiased and open manner. This includes any age, gender, sexual orientation and relationship type. Difficulties may be general or associated with a particular incident or behavior. Whatever the issue I will help you explore it, I am happy to work with you individually or as a couple.

My first session

The first appointment whether you are coming for Individual or couples counselling, will last an hour. We will discuss your goals and what you want to achieve from the process, you will have an opportunity to ask any questions you may have about counselling.

We will work together to find a mutually convenient time to set up your first appointment, and normally this will be within a week. This can be arranged via phone, email or text. I will then send you an agreement form with further information including payment information.

Your first appointment will be relaxed and a chance for you to discuss your situation with me to find out if counselling can give you the help you need. During this meeting, the process and expectations of counselling and the relationship between us will be outlined and agreed. This is your time for you to talk about what is going on for you.

I work with people with a range of issues including but not limited to, Depression and Anxiety, Suicidal thoughts, Relationships and their issues, sex and sexuality, greater life balance, work related stress and more.

I work with adults and couples of any age. Counselling is a talking therapy which gives you a space to explore your thoughts and feelings without judgement. I aim to help you feel more in control and empower you to make the changes YOU want to your life!

My aim is to help you get a better understanding of your thoughts and feelings to help you deal  with your emotional issues and to support you if you are feeling stuck or struggling to make sense of things by working collaboratively towards your goal. I know that it's often a challenge to make the decision to seek therapy, yet the benefits can be enormous.

I am a fully qualified experienced Counsellor and Registered member of The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and Accredited member of the National Counselling Society (NCS)

I began working with a mental health charity as a person-centred counsellor working with adults who presented with various issues some of which were domestic violence, relationships, trauma, sometimes alongside mental health conditions. Since qualifying, I have continued to volunteer as a counsellor alongside my private practice, The Next Page Counselling. I believe counselling should be accessible to all.

As an integrative counsellor,  I work with various models of therapy and use the best to match the needs of my client, as every person is an individual.

Practice description

I work with clients addressing a variety of area's some of which are anxiety, depression, self-confidence, suicide, relationships and couples counselling, sexual and sexuality, difficulty with life transitions, trauma and abuse.  Life can be amazing and exciting but can also be challenging, confusing and stressful. Mostly we find our way through life and figure it out ourselves, but sometimes we need a bit of help. How would you like things to change after counselling? How would your life be better or easier? How would your relationship change? What would you have stopped doing or started? These are all important questions when thinking about starting counselling, you are the expert in your life. I will be working with you to help in making any changes you want to make!

If we think about relationship counselling, do we think of a couple having difficulties in their relationship? Although it can be, it may not always be the case. Parent, child, siblings, carer, family member, friend, colleagues and friendships. These relationships impact our lives. I work with any type of relationship and sexual issue in a non-judgmental, unbiased and open manner. This includes any age, gender, sexual orientation and relationship type. Difficulties may be general or associated with a particular incident or behavior. I work with  individuals, couples or open relationships to help you find a way forward.

Sex is still a conversation that people can feel uncomfortable talking about, however talking about it is the start to alleviate the problem. Sex is loaded with emotion and understanding your sexual thoughts, feeling and desires can help. Talking it through in an open manor with a counsellor can help you see how they are affecting your life and relationships. Addressing your concerns, thoughts, and feelings giving you tools to start resolving the issue by listening to your concerns within the realm of sex.

My first session

In your first session we will do an assessment of where you feel you are now and what your expectations and goals are from counselling. I will explain the type of therapy I use within our work. If you are unsure about anything before or after this session, please ask.

If you decide to continue, we will discuss and agree on how to move forward. This will include how often we meet, time and the contract between us. You will receive a copy of the contract and we will go through it together to confirm what we can both expect moving forward. You will retain your copy to refer to in your own time.

I offer a free 15 minute call with no obligation before booking a full session.

About me and my therapy practice

Ecotherapy is an umbrella term for nature-based approaches to healing.

Walk-and-Talk Therapy As the name suggests, is about walking as we talk. It is more than just going for a walk. I will integrate elements of other therapeutic practices. It can take place in both rural and urban settings and involves various levels of physical activity. Spending time in nature has been found to help with mental health, a calming effect on the mind and engaging the senses with the sounds and smells. The added connection with nature and becoming attuned to the outside world may feel less intimidating than being sat in a room, along with the added benefit of connecting mind and body with nature.

Confidentiality, with being outside there is a possibility there may be other people around. I will work with you to manage the conversation and pause if I feel we are close enough to be heard by others. The location will be agreed by both parties to try to reduce any risk of potentially being seen by people we may know. However, this cannot be guaranteed so we will contract together on how to navigate this.

Risk assessment, I work with the assumption you look after your own health and safety. I am not in control of external factors such as environmental risks – slips, trips etc. It is your responsibility to dress appropriately for windy weather, wet, cold and heat.

If there are certain weather situations you are not prepared to go outside in, the back up plan will be zoom. Sessions need to be paid for 48hrs in advance and if reverting to the back up zoom option this needs to be made clear by email or text at least 2 hours prior to the start of the appointment.
