I work full time, 8-3 Mon to Fri, with evening sessions Mon-Weds and Saturday mornings 9-1. Please do enquire, I have a busy practice, but do have space, so if we're the right fit, we'll hopefully find a time that suits us both.
About me and my therapy practice
I aim to provide a safe, non-judgemental space for you to be able to talk about what is troubling you. Together we will start make sense of what you feel and explore where these feelings, thoughts and behaviours have come from and what is getting in the way of you acting in your best interests or capacity to self-regulate. We will spend time exploring your relationships, what you bring to a relationship dynamic and how you respond and what that means for the quality of your relationships and your life. I broadly work with people encountering anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, stress, work issues, physical and mental illness diagnoses and life transitions - particularly around bereavement, becoming a parent, marriage and divorce.
I also work with couples. Your relationship may be in difficulty with a lack of intimacy or trust, boredom or facing decisions about your future. By working with you to understand your relationship dynamic, your individual hopes, fears and desires, we can work to resolve your difficulties and live harmoniously, whether that is together or apart.
Many couples I see have had a difficult experience around growing their family, from grief after miscarriage to overwhelm with family life to managing grandparents.
My specialist interest area is around becoming a parent, particularly the maternal experience, as well as fathers who are dealing with emotional distress. Conception, fertility, miscarriage, pregnancy, birth and parenting can significantly disrupt our psychological stability where we might previously have been able to cope. Coupled with the physical impact of growing a baby, giving birth and the newborn period, psychological distress can greatly impact our lives. Birth trauma, miscarriage, termination, illness or the experience of covid / lockdown births, can stay with us long after the event. Expertise in this field can enhance healing and recovery.
Practice description
In the heart of Salisbury at the lovely Practice Rooms, I aim to provide a safe space, for you to be able to talk, or even sit in silence, with me, for us to make sense your emotional distress, tend to it and start to make sense of what is going on for you and where it comes from. Through weekly 50 minute meetings for individuals and 1 hr for couples, we will start to deepen our exploration as our relationship builds, which enables you to safely explore the thoughts, feelings and behaviours that distress you, and begin to address what you can do to live life for yourself. I believe we all have the capacity to change and heal, but we can get in our own way, so I aim to bring compassion to the dark aspects we don't always want to face about ourselves and our experiences, alongside permission and care for personal change.
My first session
Our first session will last 50 minutes for individual or 60 for couples. We'll explore in more depth what has brought you to therapy. I will need to cover off some specific questions around safety, your support network etc but it is really for you to start telling your story and share your experience in a confidential space. We'll agree what you want to work on, and at the end you can decide if you want to continue with me. We will then confirm a regular time and go from there.
